Ok so I'm feeling patriotic and want to do a full up flag theme on my 10/22. I'm going to start the stock in white and then lay down the blue field and red stripes afterwards. What I am wondering is if the white base will affect the brightness of the red and blue layers laid over it?

Re: Duracoat color bleed?

Let the base dry then lay down the next color, let that dry then do the final color. Polane T and Duracoat are same/same, applied wet over wet and they will bleed around the edges.

Right, I know i have to paint dry on dry, but what i mean is that i am hoping the white base will add brightness to the red and blue. Will it?

I ordered Patriotic Blue from Midway but i dont see it on the Lauer site so i am not sure what color i am really getting.

Re: Duracoat color bleed?

Depends on how "thick" you apply the paint and the pressure used to spray. A lighter base will always give a lighter top coat unless you really lay down the paint.

Spray a test peice white as you would normally spray. Using the red, spray test patterns with varying air pressure to give a fade appearence to the stripes, too low and you'll get texture, to high and you'll get 100% coverage. I'm sure it'll be fine no matter what you do as the contrast will help with what you want.

Re: Duracoat color bleed?

None yet. The stock and most of the paint come in tomorrow. I also ordered some goddess ivory to bring the white down a tad. I want the white highlights to show over the stripes.

Pics coming as soon as the project gets off the ground. Thanks for the interest!
