I have a Remington SPS action Im wanting to paint and wanted to know if Duracoat made a color that is similiar to the stainless look. If I cant find a stainless color that looks good I will just go with black. I looked at the website but its hard to really tell the colors on there.

Re: Duracoat Color Question

The biggest issue with the stainless metalic colors is that they need a clear coat or else they peel off. The metalic colors are not as durable as the rest of their paints so that have to have the clear coat to work right.

Re: Duracoat Color Question

The stainless steel color they sell is dead on. I've used it a few times and like said above, make sure you clear coat it. You can customize the finish look (gloss, matte, etc) with the clear coat.

Re: Duracoat Color Question

I have matched Rem. actions to stainless barrels with great results.
Top coat of clear is needed over stainless DuraCoat. Be sure to blast and degrease the receiver before coating. Prep of the metal is everything.

Re: Duracoat Color Question

Clear coat is tricky to apply. If dry sprays easily if you don't thin it or apply it in even passes. TO circumvent this, I add retarder. It keeps the layer wet, but then again, you don't want to saturate the project. Takes some practice.

Re: Duracoat Color Question

I just posted a pic of my son's 22lr that I just finished in stainless steel. I used two coats of matte clear for the top coat. It matches my S&W 1911's stainless perfect! Check it out in the rimfire sticks thread. not sure how to make a link for you
