I have a friend who started dipping rifles in diffrent tactical graphix about two years ago. He has had alot of business, but I have always been curious about doing it. I have always duracoated. Has anyone on here had their rifles dipped? If so, how do you like it?

Re: Duracoat/or Hydro-Dip

I have not used it yet though I am having a rifle built and am going to try it on the stock only. My personal experience is pretty positive with heat cured cera-cote and not so great with dura coat. Pretty new I guess we will figure it out over time.

Re: Duracoat/or Hydro-Dip

I'm wondering the same thing. I've heard that hydro dipping isn't as durable but it seems to hold up well on Atv fenders. Most OEM manufacturers use the hydro-dipping for their camo models. I tend to treat my rifles better than a 4x4 through a mud hole.

Re: Duracoat/or Hydro-Dip

I've had one stock hydro dipped. Hunted with the rifle for three seasons and never got a scratch on it. (I'm not overly rough on a rifle, but I don't baby a hunting rifle either.) I think it is more durable than a painted stock, if done correctly.

I asked the guy who did mine that same question. Is it durable? His response was to show me a bow he was working on. It had an earlier (ugly as hell) pattern hydro dipped on it that he was replacing with a new one. In order to get the original layer off he had to sand blast it for a very, very long time. That was all I needed to see. Done correctly, it is very durable.

Re: Duracoat/or Hydro-Dip

Ive duracoated many rifles, pistols and parts. Well over 100 pieces. Ive had great luck with duracoat. Never a complaint.
Ive also done 1 stock with hydrodip myself. I ordered a kit and did it to my wifes 5R stock. Turned out great and seems to be tough enough. If you are considering getting yours done by someone else and not doing it yourself, Id do the dip. The patterns on the dip are very detailed and 3 dimentional where the paint is just 1 dimention usually. If you want to do it yourself, do just opposite. The time it takes to prep and dip is extensive when compared to paint. If you screw up the dip, start over. If you dont like the paint, paint over it. No comparison when it comes to do it yourself.

Yes, I used Carolina Custom Camo, they are located in Kershaw County, about 20 minutes north of Camden. Great guy to work with, he does excellent work.

Re: Duracoat/or Hydro-Dip

You also have the option for both. Lauer weaponry (Durcoat) makes a new product that is designed to soak into the hydo dips and provide extra protection. I wish they came out with it a year sooner my 887 nitro mag with max4 hd camo didn't hold up well
