I have an older kylon'ed hipoint 995 carbine. I also have some leftover duracoat I want to use and am curious if anyone has ever tried duracoating directly over krylon without removing it first. I'd strip it, but I don't know how acetone or MEK would affect the plastic parts. Granted, it is a hipoint, so if the finish doesn't turn out perfect, well it wasn't perfect to begin with.

Re: Duracoat over krylon

Citristrip shouldn't harm the plastic, and it will take the Krylon off. Duracoating on top of Krylon is not recommended, you don't want to put a strong finish on top of a weak one, if anything, you can duracoat first, then Krylon over that once duracoat cures.

Re: Duracoat over krylon

Thanks for the reply, SCP. Just in case anyone else had the same question, I ended up calling Larue too, and they told me that the wet duracoat will actually react with krylon and cause a bubbled finish. So like SCP said, not a good idea.

Re: Duracoat over krylon

cb, I believe you meant to say you called Lauer, not Larue, right? Larue makes great scope mounts, where Lauer makes Duracoat.
