I am going to do some duracoating this weekend on my Rem 700 and had a few little questions for you guys. I am duracoating my barrel, action, brake, bottom medal and rail in one color and stock in the other.

I would like to know if I should just tape up the trigger and lower portion of the action to keep the duracoat off of it.

When spraying the brake (RAD), and bottom medal (seekins) should I not worry about spraying the bolt head and the mag release button or should I tape of the edges so they don't stick together (if you can understand what I try to say)

Also my bolt is cerakoted and I am just wanting to spray the handle and the knob but not the rest of the bolt. Will duracoat stick to cerakote?

Thanks

For me, the tape and play-dough works for masking and keeping it out of areas not wanted in. It goes on pretty thin so I wouldnt worry about it causing issues with the mag release and all, I have never had problems with it effecting them.
I wouldnt paint inside the chamber or barrel though..

Just my 2 cents worth..

I would scuff the cerakote items a little if you are going to paint over them. maybe with a scotch brite pad or some 400 grip paper.

Personally, I remove everything that's not going to be painted; i.e. your trigger.
With a proper application of the duracoat, there's no nee to tape off the underside of the action before painting.
If you get a run or some such and you're worried about the bedding contact, just wipe it off and do it again.

Well, thanks for the help guys. Here is my texture job I did last night, my flush cups should be here on Monday so I will install them, and start duracoating. I will post pictures of the rest of the job.

Nice job so far. If you plan to duracaot the stock too I would either sand off the "spiderweb" treatment (I can't tell if it is smooth or if there is some texture there) or somehow make sure to match the texture of the bedding compound to the stock. Like someone said above, the duracoat goes on pretty thin. When I did this with my Boyd's stock on my trainer you can pretty easily see the difference between the smooth bedding compound and the surrounding stock, which has a very slight texture.
