I had a rifle fall over and broke the scope base screw off in the metal. Anyone have advice or know someone that can remove it? Possibly use and easy out to remove such a tiny bolt?

Open to ideas and suggestion. I am kind of handy and tooled up pretty well but have not had any luck getting this out.

Re: easy out ?

How far down in the hole did it break? You could take a small slitting saw or cutoff wheel and cut a screw slot in the top and use a small screwdriver to remove it. Sometimes you can remove it by working it out with a pick. East out is an option but pretty delicate for that size screw

Re: easy out ?

The best bet is to take it to a machinist or a smith. They can put it in the mill, center drill it and possibly get it out with a left handed drill bit. An e-z out would be a last resort. If you snap one off and you are in trouble.

This is definitely something that that you shouldn't undertake in your basement.

Re: easy out ?

I have been a Mechanic for 22 years and there is nothing EZ about an EZ out. worst name ever given to a tool. As others stated brake off the EZout and you are F-ed.

Normally the "torque" is between the head of the bolt and the object being bolted down. If the threads are undamaged and the head of the screw is completely gone then it should just spin out with a pick type tool.

Re: easy out ?

If your good with tools:

Get a centerpunch and mark as close to center as you can.

Drill a hole 2/3 the length of the screw.

Use a torx bit and carefully drive it into the hole

Put a hot air gun on the screw with a good shot of ATF/acetone mixed together.

Attempt to reverse the screw using a downward pressure.

This has saved my bacon a number of times over the years.

Good luck
