Im looking to buy a new pack for when Im out coyote hunting. I will primarily be carrying extra clothing, food, foxpro, and various other accessories... Im interested in the Gunslinger II pack based on the amount of room it carries and because it has a rifle scabbard. Anything else larger seems like it would be too much.

I went by a local hunting store and found a Gunslinger II in stock. The pack had the new Intex frame. With the scabbard fully extended, it looked like the frame would be in the way and make it difficult to fit a scoped rifle. Im looking to see if anyone else has any experience with this pack and the new intex frame.

I will primarily be carrying bolt action rifles, AR platform rifles, and in the future a XLR Chassis system. Im wanting to know if the frame gets in the way of the rifle when attempting to place it in the scabbard.

I have an older gs 2 with no frame and my buddy has new one with frame. There seems to be a fair amount off difference in the scabbard capacity cause his is much tighter then mine. He likes mine better. Ymmv

Yes the frame impedes access to the rifle, as do the design placement of the cinch straps - being on the back of the scabbard they also compress the scabbard closed

It will certainly transport your rifle securely.....but don't expect to be able to draw or holster discreetly or with any finesse. Up to you... but for a short coyote hunt, might be better off to sling it and use a backpack.

My buddy has the Lodrag. It doesn't hang up the rifle quite as much as the GSII but still does to a degree. Enough that he doesn't use it anymore. They're both great for range sessions, one trip to the vehicle for all the gear.

...... I may consider going with the Lodrag..

I have and use both the X3 LoDrag and the G2 NON-FRAME version.

I use the X3 when we're hunting together in a team scenario where I don't have to pack a caller... just some gear, ammo and occasional equipment. It works out great but their really isn't that much space.

When I'm hunting solo, I take the G2. Fits just about everything I could want to stuff in there, till i get more stuff anyway.

We tend to put in pretty long days calling so making sure it all fits and rides nicely is pretty important.

If the frame is a problem while coyote hunting...just take it off. I'd rather have the option to use it for some scenarios, and leave it home if I didn't like it.

On the new model GSII's the main compartment flops around like a water balloon without the frame installed.

Also as noted in the other thread - it's necessary alter (cut) a strap to remove the frame. It's the clip-strap that holds the scabbard up when the bottom half of the scabbard is folded up.
