I'm trying to get a feel for how much bigger the Eberlestock Operator/Terminator is than the the Phantom/Halftrack. Can't find any dimension or a photo of them side-by-side. The volume they give doesn't really give me a good feel for it.

Was looking at my friend's Halftrack and I found it was tiny... too small for my needs.

hrm. depends on your needs.

the phantom is indeed a bit small. one thing i didn't like - no top loader. but then you can remove the scabbard.

supposedly the same size as the phantom, but for me significantly better - gunslinger 2

if i'd have to go for real volume, i'd recommend you to have a look at a skycrane2. a modular version of operator/terminator. i almost bought it.

but it depends on your needs.

I liked (and got) Operator - as it's easier to not load the larger pack to full capacity than <you know what I mean :>.

Re: Eberlestock Operator vs. Phantom/Halftrack (size)?

If you have determined that the capacity of the Halftrack isn't sufficient for your applications, then you're going to want to pass on the Phantom. The Operator has approximately 5,000 cubic inches of load capacity, roughly 2,000 cubic inches more than that of the Halftrack/Phantom/Gunslinger II.

Without knowing what you intend to do with the pack, it sounds like you want the capacity that comes in the Terminator, Operator, Skycrane II, J107M, etc. Tell us a little about your intended applications & we can help you narrow down your choice.

I want something that I can pack all my shooting gear in, in addition to food and rain gear.

-Spotting scope
-Tripod
-Shooting mat
-Ammo
-Range finder
-Rain pants, poncho, dry socks etc...
-Data book
-First Aid kit
-2-way radios
-Hydration
-Lunch

Also want the option of using the pack with or without the weapon case or vice-versa. I ended up getting the Terminator after studying the videos and talking to a few people who had them. Those long pouches along the sides seem optimum for the tripod and shooting mat. They worked ok on the Halftrack, but the zipper on the Terminator will be better.

Thanks guys!

Re: Eberlestock Operator vs. Phantom/Halftrack (size)?

I went from a phantom to an operator. The g4 operator is about twice as big as the Phantom and is top loading. Get with Ceylon he will take care of you.

Here are some comparison pictures of the g4 operator and my camelbak bfm500 next to each other. The pics really dont do it justice.Just for more of and comparison the g4 has 2 regular pillows and room for another the bfm only has 1 and maybe room for a half of another. also i dont have anything any in of the other pockets just the main compartment. the g4 is HUGE.

Hope this helps you some.
