I was considering purchasing an used S&B and was wondering if minor scratches on the ocular lens would affect optic performance. Minor as in minute scratches from improper cleaning. Thought? Thanks.

If the price is considerably lower, $500 or more, than the fair market priced for this used scope I would consider it.

Nobody can know without seeing it, just depends on how minor the scratches are and where they are actually at. If they are towards the outside and very thin it shouldn't make a difference at all besides maybe annoying you now and then that your expensive toy isn't perfect.

Scratches on the outer lenses won't have any more impact than some dust/debris on the lens. Now ask yourself if you keep your lenses perfectly clean all the time.
Scratches are generally way overrated from a strictly functional point of view.
