The definition of frustrating:

Finally got my T3 rail. All good.

Tried the Badgers on it, all good.

Just went to try the rail on the rifle and the screws won’t go in; they look about right,
but seem to be a gnat’s nadger too fat – they’re almost biting, but not quite.

Therefore, pretty surprised to see this thread:

http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1342837

From that thread I now realise what's happened - I've been sent Imperial or just 'wrong' screws.

A bit boring to see that it's a 'known error' that's happened before.

Dropped a message to EGW last night asking for correct replacements. Will report back how/if it's resolved.

The rail itself is beautifully made; but this is wildly frustrating!!!

Re: EGW - Wrong Rail Screws for T3

I was only very miffed when I posted that earlier.

Just to make sure I was supremely frustrated, I just torqued the scope into the rings and held the thing together to see how it feels.

Nice. In fact, perfect!

But you know what? I’ve had the rifle for over 6 months, slowly getting these bits and pieces together and I’m still yet to fire it!

I thought I was there now, but Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!

Re: EGW - Wrong Rail Screws for T3

I bought two Tikkas within a few months of each other and they both had issues with the screws, one was the metric you mentioned and the other 6x48. Simply solution for me was opening both up to 8x40 and being done with it.

Re: EGW - Wrong Rail Screws for T3

I just had the same problem with my Tikka T3 Varmint, they will send you the correct screws, the Tikka has two different threadings, it would just be easier if EGW included both with the rail.

Sounds like the best fix.

If I had the rifle for 6 months working on putting it together I'm pretty sure I'd have found the two thread issue and checked.....but that's just me.

Granted, EGW should include both screw sets if its known that the Tikka's are built like Canadian Fords......some metric, some SAE.

Re: EGW - Wrong Rail Screws for T3

We contacted Tikka They said all are 6x48.
That may be all going to US? Not sure.
The 3.5 x .5 are a special thread. They are within .001 of the 6x48 in both diameter and pitch.
One issue is the rifles seem to be drilled and tapped. THAN they serrate the top of the receiver often making the screws hard to start (either screw)
If anyone can chime in that KNOWS for sure the rifles that ship to another country are 6x48 or 3.5 x .5 please advise.

Like The US special thread of 6x48 the 3.5 x .5 is a special as well. The std Metric thread is 3.5 x .6

Will get a set of each out to you. Both may be hard to get started in the serrated receiver. once started they should be consistant the entire way in. If you feel binding swap to the other set.

Re: EGW - Wrong Rail Screws for T3

Sweet looking T3, is the stock in a custom color? Looks similar to the TRG green, but could be OD for all I know. Difficult to tell in that lighting.
If you have more pics I would love to see them, thinking of getting the T4 in TRG green for my T3 Tactical..

geo,

Thanks! (I take it you got my email with mailing address? Grateful if you would confirm).

Just as you say, I had to clean-up the hole tops where the serrations had messed them up. With that, the screws would go in about a turn before binding - the explanation of just how similar the tolerances of the different screw types are sounds to be spot on

Re: EGW - Wrong Rail Screws for T3

All,

Thanks for the kind comments on the set-up. To answer the questions: It’s my idea of 'lightweight tacticalish mountain stalking rifle'.

The stock is in Manner’s ‘Leaf Green’ colour; much closer to the actual colour of grass than olive. To say I'm pleased with the stock would be a massive understatement. It is immaculate; the ergonomics are perfect and the CNC inlet is so ridiculously perfect that I'm going to give it a try without epoxy bedding - the fit is so precise I'm not sure it'll be worth it (Manner’s customer service, timescale and delivery were all similarly impressive):

I like a free-float I can see; not check with sheets of paper

And...once I get the screws promised by Geo.... I’ll finally get to know how it shoots too!

Re: EGW - Wrong Rail Screws for T3

Nice scope (S&B 10x42 I believe). Just wondering if you would have mounted a 50mm objective scope if the adjustable cheek piece would have been necessary. I have this stock on a Sako Quad with an US Optics base and had to hunt and find real low (0.82 Seekins 30mm rings) to get the eye placement right. I'm thinking of this stock or a Manners T2 or T3 for my T3 Tactical. Also wondering how much she weights? Sharp looking set-up.

Re: EGW - Wrong Rail Screws for T3

Dagger,

It's a 3-12x50, the 34mm tube and the even fatter illum ret section make the perspective a little misleading.

I considered the cheekpiece; but was put off by the additional weight; from memory something like + 2lbs - which is a crazy weight gain to my mind.

The scope is sitting in the lowest 34mm mounts that badger do; I forget the height, but I think around 0.95in. At that height plus rail I'm not into a firm cheek-bone weld; more of a teeth-weld. I will definitely be putting a cheek raiser of some sort on it -just not one that weighs 2 lb!

Re: EGW - Wrong Rail Screws for T3

Yes I had the same issue however EGW posted some out to the UK that day - fantastic service and a well made product.
Nice stock - I ordered mine nearly a year ago now and still waiting. Imagine my frustration.... Would just point out that the wait has nothing to do with Manners and everything to do with red tape getting the shipment over to the UK.

Re: EGW - Wrong Rail Screws for T3

Just had an email from EGW confirming new screws in the post. Pretty impressive service.

Jagged:
A year to get a Manners to UK?! Mine took 2 months.
Someone's having a laugh at your expense. Who ordered it for you?
(Are you on ukvarminting?)

Re: EGW - Wrong Rail Screws for T3

EGW has been around for quite a while. They have, over the years, delivered some very impressive handguns for USPSA games and they have long been an innovator in our world.
Glad to see, but not at all surprised, that they are making it right.
BTW, that is a very nice stick! I hope you can get from building to shooting very soon.

EGW seem to be right on the ball, glad you have experienced the same excellent customer service.

Regarding the Manners shipment, I ordered mine along with a large order being brought into the UK. The delay has been mainly down to the US state dept and the shipping broker being used - Manners and the UK importer / distributor both have nothing whatsoever to do with the delay hence I shall wait patiently for the shipment to arrive. You are lucky to have managed to order one direct, I'm not sure that will continue to be the case however for anyone else wishing to do so.

I'm not too bothered right now anyway because the main cause of any frustration I'm having at the moment is a fkn broken leg which will see me out of action till the New Year!!

Enjoy your EGW and Manners combo mate ;o)
