Blog Article: Selecting A Carbine Optic

Let me know if you have any questions after looking through this info. It's a great unit. They're hard to keep on the shelf and we just recently sold 34 of these units to a gov't entity.

Thanks,

They're both built very rugged and it would be hard to say which one was better in that regard. They both have their pros and cons. The ACOG's aren't going to require changing out batteries like the SpecterDR's but the ACOG's aren't as versatile as the SpecterDR's instant flip-switch from 1x-4x.

The SpecterDR is an awesome sight. The one I got from Mike sits atop my AR10 and its a real pleasure to shoot. Scan the area on low and flip the lever for detail on high power. Awesome.
As for needing a battery, I haven't really had a need for it in daylight but the red dot is alway an option.

It couldn't have happened without CSTactical;the previous posts and reviews by the staff here.

Since there's been some interest, the device in front is an older GenII+ Litton M911A on a mount I made. (I've had it for several years) I took a few pics of the house from across the street, but it was still too bright to have the iris wide open - so there are some artifacts visible. YMMV.

One day that'll be a CT40(after I win the lottery)

Re: Elcan SpecterDR 1x4?

Mike and I took the SpecterDR out to the range for a "Return to Zero" test. We've seen people post that the ARMS mount has issues at returning to zero when taking the unit on and off. Our test gave us the opposite conclusion. We filmed it so we should have a video of the results up this week.

Thanks,

I am considering one of these (probably the 1.5-6x)but am concerned about all the issues I have read about wandering zero when flipping from low mag to higher. Seems to be a frequent problem, at least in the posts that pop up from a google search. has this issue been addressed in these newer units??

Read LL review, nevermind.....

would like to hear review or thoughts on the 7.62 version.

Other than the reticle subtension for the drop using a 7.62 what do you expect to be different about it ?

I use my 5.56 1.5-6X on a 308 and it works great, tracks well to 500 yards before it starts to diverge from the drop.
