There are so many posts, my aplolgies for another repeat.
New to the AR world, bought a DPMS 16", target shooting & eventually 3-gun match.

Are any EOTech clones okay?

Dont want to spend tooo much, budgeting for ammo funds ya know.

Thanks in advance

Save your money until you can afford the EoTech if possible. I believe Bushnell markets a red dot Called the Holosight that would be near your budget and would work well for you. Just not as robust as the AimPoint or Eotech. Agree, stay way from the Famous maker or NC Star. They are junk.

Re: Electronic sights newbie help

I'm glad I found this post. Is Osprey Int'l a good brand to purchase? Electronics seem to be exposed. Have they compensated for that, ya think? I actually traded five silver dollars for it. Did I get ripped?

Personal Opinion:

Save your money and buy quality optics. The DPMS is a great rifle and you will not get the most of it if you put a cheap optic on it. There is a rule of thumb that says that you should spend as much as the rifle on your optics if not more. Nice thing about AR's, you dont have to.

Buy an Aimpoint or Trijicon. Everything else is subpar (yes Even Eotech). The money invested here will last the life of the rifle. I know that you are on a tight budget, but you can check Craigslist or other auction/sale sites for high quality electonics. I picked up an Aimpoint Comp M2 for $250.00 about 4 months ago for my buddy on Craigslist. The only difference between the M2 and M3 is battery life. I then bought a Comp ML3 2 moa for $400 with the ARMS mount. This happens all the time.

I suggest you be patient and shoot with iron sites until you get good optics. That will save even more money for ammo.

For about $200, try to find a Bushnell Holosight, same thing as a EoTech, but without the hard armor shell. I had one, worked very well. Its made by EoTech for Bushnell.
