Rifle Scopes Elevation holdovers question

If I zero my scope for 100 at the highest mil dot on my reticle, where would my holder overs be? Let's say .308 168 amax, muzzle velocity 2650 and flat land. I have a very difficult time understanding.

Also, being SFP...how does that effect my elevation holders on different powers (if any?)

Excuse me if in not explaining clearly.

I'm not sure why you would zero that way but you would be able to hold over in the neighborhood of 680 or 685 yards on max power. Keep in mind if you zero your rifle at 100 yards using the top 3 mil hash mark your rifle will only be zeroed if your scope is at max power. If your scope is a 4-16 spf you mil marks are accurate at 16x. At 8x if an object measured 3 mils it would actually be covering 6 mils. On 4x 3 mils will cover 12 mils.

If your scope has good knobs for adjustment, use the knobs for adjusting and zero the rifle with the center of the reticle. From there you can use the hash marks below center for quick adjustments but in a long range situation you will have the time to range the distance and make the adjustment with the elevation knob. Take the rifle out and shoot it. The more you shoot it the easier it gets. I zero at 200 yds using the center of reticle.
