I am taking a serious look at ordering a USO ST-17 straight power scope. I look at all the turret choices. And find myself a bit confused(sorry for the stupidity).

I will be putting the scope on a 22-250 that is shooting a 75 grain A-Max at 3350 fps. I will be using the rig for ground hog hunting with shots from 300 to 800 yards. So that would be the range which I would be dialing for elevation.

I would prefer an exposed turret for elevation.

What are the advantages of the EREK turret?? Since I am only dialing to 800 yards would I need it for my shooting??

The standard turret has threads for a cap. Is it recommended to use the caps?? Or will the scope be fine in field conditions without the caps??

Wow they have alot of options. But I like that. Tom.

Re: Elevation Turret

Tom,

You'll need about 15.2 MOA @ 800 yds with your load.

With the standard US#1 - 1/4 MOA (that takes the screw on dust cover) you have 12MOA per turn.

With EREK you'll have 22.5 MOA per turn.

So you will need two turns with the standard #1 turret, less than one turn with EREK.

You can run the Standard #1 without the screw on cap, it will work fine. Many folks like the Standard #1 for windage and leave the cap on, and hold for wind.

Re: Elevation Turret

There is the option of the US#3 knobs. My SN3 has 10.5 Mils, sorry dont know how many MOA that is, of elevation per turn and doesnt use the screw on cover. But if I was ordering a new one, I would get the EREK for not having to get lost in your adjustments for your application.
