That's exact load I run in my saum, cept 22in, the 156s have leveled elk, only sample of 3, but straight dumped them.
It’s a great load, been staking em in on steel. I have no doubt it will do work on any bull inside 1k. The 156 Berger is phenomenal. I shot it in my 260 AI in the nrl hunter finale and it performed incredibly

I bought an Seekins Element Hunter 6.5PRC for my antelope hunts. I have a bunch of 156’s that plan on loading but with Elk season approaching rapidly I bought some Berger factory 140 hunters.
I found a promising spot that I thought with patience and persistence I would have an opportunity for a close broadside on a bull and wanted to give the little PRC a try.
350 yards, perfect broadside. Hit first rib behind the shoulder. The bull staggered 6-8 steps and piled up on the entrance wound side. I do gutless, so did not attempt to find the bullet.
True, he traveled further than any other Elk I have shot, but they all die when double lunged. The bullet obvious sent fragments to his interior, good lung blood flowing from the the downside of his mouth.

Two questions. Where did you hunt? Do you know how much that barrel weights by itself? If not, what does the gun weight?

Wyoming Area 6 between Laramie and Wheatland.
Don’t know on barrel weight. I’ll look to see but I think the bare rifle without scope and rings is right about 7.5 lbs.
Leaving for my first guided elk hunt in the morning. 22 hour drive, you put this much into a hunt you don't risk it on one rifle. I put three in the truck for good measure:
- 300WM, McMillan Edge stock, fairly light McGowan barrel 24", 9.X lbs. Primary rifle. With fewer mods from factory this rifle took my first elk at 618yds.
- 338 Edge, McMillan stock. 30" barrel, 14 lbs. Took my last elk with this at 738 yds, 10 miles one way from the truck on foot. Not going to do that again.
- 358 WSM wildcat - this was my lightweight rig but now a tad heavier than the 300WM. Nice heavy hitter at reasonable ranges.
