I dug a bit more into the link I posted and there is a lot of information there on other training rifles, target rifles, targets. It's enjoyable taking a look and reading about this past history stuff that involves the .22LR, that's for sure!

Did you think about buying that 1903 trainer? I know I would've thought about it, but I'm sure reality of the day would have set in and I would have to have let it pass me by this/that time around.

Re: Enfield .303 That Became A .22 Rimfire Trainer

Years ago I had an Enfield 22 Trainer. This rifle had a 22 LR barrel and a gutted 303 magazine box. The shells ejected and fell into the magazine box. This one was rechambered to 22 Jet, and had a S&W 22 Jet to 22 LR chamber adapter to shoot rimfire.
With the 22 Adapter in you used the 22 Bolt to shoot rimfire ammo. With the chamber adapter out using a 303 bolt it shot 22 Jet ammo.

Nice old rifle.

Some time ago I spent significant hours hunting the web for all things Enfield... I have somewhere a collection of training target photos from 1915-17 era that the troops used to train on with their .22LR training Lee Enfield SMLE's.

One of the interesting things they did was to set the rifle sights for 600yrds and face towards a screen sheet or model, Above it would be an equally sized sheet with scoring rings on it. The section commander would call the fire missions and the section would shoot.. scoring shots on the the lower sheet that could be replaced. This trained the section in shooting and fire control.. things that the British Infantry still hold dear.

The collection of photos (of targets) includes one memorable target of Kaiser Wilhelm on his horse.... targets of opportunity was something the British had learned from the Americans!

UPDATE >>> In the link above go to the TARGETS page to see this stuff... (thanks Joe)

RJ,

Are some of those targets in the 'target' section in the above site I posted, part of the targets you are referring to?

That is one of those sites that a person could just spend hours on enjoying it.

The Canadian 22lr trainer is the top of the class in 22 trainers. I have the M2 (03) trainer, an Enfield trainer the MAS 45 and the Canadian in it's original wooden case. And its much more accurate than the others.
