I have just started rebarreling some rifles and was wondering if anyone knew a place to engrave caliber and such on the barrel... I live out in west Texas and most of the places that do engraving around here dont engrave rifle barrels or have the equipment to do so... Any info would be appreciated..

Re: Engraving Question

Some are stamped and some are engraved.

If you don't mind mailing, there are several competent smiths here that can help you. I have been please with LA Precision, Karl Kampfeld, and GAP.

Good Luck,
Nathan

Re: Engraving Question

Look up "pantograph". The motor is not needed (suprised me), just fonts, a tracing arm and a diamond tip stylus. There was a good thread on this over on benchrest central. Basically you clamp in the barrel, set out your fonts and trace away. I still need to buy one.

Re: Engraving Question

There is also electo-etching. A lot of knife makers use this technique. You can also sandblast but it takes a bit of effort to make a mask & not worth it for one-of's. 2Linc makes a spring-loaded engraving tool if you have a CNC machine.

Re: Engraving Question

you could try a local machine shop i have done a few barrels even some with fancy scroll work on a haas cnc mill. or someone with an electro-etch machine
