So my kid's friend tells me that he was playing MW2 and the Russians set of an EMP which made his eotech go down, and he asks me if real Eotechs are hardened to withstand an EMP without getting fried.

I say, "I dunno."

So I email a guy at Eotech and he replies, "I dunno."

Anyone here know?

Re: Eotech holosight and electromagnetic pulse

I suspect that the answer is no.

With respect to whether that's a problem, I have to invoke Supernaw's Law - "The only correct answer to any non-trivial question is, 'It depends'." *

In this case, whether the EMP will be a problem depends upon the strength of the pulse at the optic.

Practically speaking, though, in the real world the user is likely to have far more significant problems than whether his Eotech still works.

* Supernaw's Law was coined by Irwin Supernaw, father of country singer Doug Supernaw. Irwin has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, and is about the smartest S.O.B. I ever encountered. I worked with him for many years.

In the game the bomb is right above them when it goes off.
I didn't play it but my brother asked the same question and I said I didn't know enough about EMP to know for sure.
From what I have read at the distance they were in the game it would probley take the eotech out. It's a nice scean in the game though. Eotech doesn't make anything to block this from happening but if it were to happen I agree with lindy on you have bigger problems. Learn with irons in the event your battery goes down anyways.

That is also know as the statisticians answer.

Like stragedays said, the nuke goes off in the outer atmosphere i believe, so in theory it might take out all small, unshielded electronics. I shy away from scifi-ish games, but the MW2 is absolute badassery :}, although incredibly depressing storyline
