Why don't you do a search and see if you find the answer to what you are asking second your question has nothing to base a reason why we would say one or the other. What are you going to be doing with it? Just because you said its going on an AR doesn't meen anything. Give us something to base a reason off of then maybe you might get a good answer.

For a rifle set up only for close range, i.e., contact distance to no more than 300m, I would go with the EOTECH because it would be faster for close quarters, is parallax free, and has unlimited eye relief.
For an all-around battle rifle to be used from any range, from CQB out to the edge of the rifle's effective range, I would go with the ACOG; it has a great ranging and BDC reticle that makes quick hits on unknown-distance targets really quick and simple, and can be used for close quarters too... with both eyes open, it acts as an unmagnified red dot.

Acog’s are over rated, and over priced heavy fix powered scopes which will soon be obsolete by advances in variable power optics.

Well IMO you have more choices than just thoes two optics.
I went with the Eotech but that takes nothing away from the Acog.
I got an awsome deal on the Eotech so I jumped on it but they are in two different classes.
I'd say the Eotech is more in a catagory with the aimpoint, reflex amd other nonmagnified CQB optics.
I'd put the Acog in with other fixed power optics like USO's SN-12 or ST-6.
I really like my eotech and here's why, I got the 557 with the BDC reticle compinsated out to 600yds. Then I put a vortex 3x magnifier behind it in a Larue FTS mount. This allows me to have a dedicated CQB optic with the option of added magnification for farther shots if I need it.
But their is nothing wrong with the Acog for mid to far shooting, indoors you probably won't like it as much, but the glass is excelent and they are extreamly durable.
It really depends on personal preferance and the specific things your rifle will be used for.
Also consider CQB scopes like the S&B short dot and USO SN-4, also for less money vortex & SS make high quality, low power QCB style scopes.

I have had bad luck with my other holographic type sites on the other AR and just wanted to make sure to get something that I know will be on when I need it to be. My ol lady will have this rifle at the house with her when I am on the road and she is there alone.

A fixed power optic would not be the way I'd go for a home defense gun.
I'd look out for a good deal on an eotech if money is a concern. It seems from what I've seen you can pick up the eotech's at a cheaper price than an Aimpoint.
If money isn't a big deal then I'd go with a low power varible like the short dot.
Also Vortex and SS make low power variables that don't break the bank, I have tried neither but I'd be willing to give them a shot from what I've heard about the other scopes thoes companies are putting out I dout these are any different.

If that is what you want out of it then go with the Eotech. If I were you I would get the Aimpoint M4 due to the eight years of battery life. I leave mine on all the time and its always on when I need it. And I was not trying to be a fucking asshole I was just trying to help you out by knowing what we you were needing the optic for. Your first question should have been more specific.

I checked the 1-4 Viper PST is running $499 and the Super Sniper 1-4 is running $799. Which is better IDK but I'd think both would be good options for your rifle.

A low-powered ACOG (I have 3x) is great for anything over 25 yds, but difficult to use under that. So it's useless for home defense. One overlooked non-magnified red dot is Vortex SPARC. I put one on my 5.56 A2 since April 2010, and purposely turned it on every range trip to test its battery life - whether I use that gun or not. It is still using the same battery, and has auto-shut off after 6 hours. For home defense and range fun - it can't be beat. I'd get the 1-4 viper if it was me or I'd get exactally what I have now, my eotech w/ a 3x mag, both are inexpensive and both are dual role optics set up that way.
Now put that red dot ontop a 3-9 or something with some more power where it's needed and then were taking.

Yea the idea of maybe a 1x or 2x would be kinda nice...would give me the option of shooting out at a decent distance but still ok at close up. Honestly if she ever had to grab it and use it i seriously doubt she would be looking down the site any ways HAHAHA

A number of my friends are using the Nightforce 1-4X24 NXS on their AR's. They don't cost much more than the ACOG's. I own 4 ACOG's and if I had to do it over I'd go the Nighforce 1-4x24 NXS route.

I like the eotech for anything out to 300. I have a magnifier that makes it usable out further. Unmagnified, it is much quicker to target, my .02

Aimpoint with a mount for 400 is pretty hard to beat. For what you are looking for can't really beat that. Price is good, batteries last 5 times as long as EOtech and it already has a good enough mount.

Then when you get what you deserve, you get all pissed off. Grow some thicker skin or do the following:

ACOG with it's preset stadia lines/ranges is a $1400 plus optic that is ballistically calibrated for one round - the M855 w/ 14.5". A little overspecialized for my purposes, even though I understand it's a combat optic and some 5.56 rounds have similar ballistic profiles.
To me if you don't want magnification, it's Eotech v. Aimpoint. I thought initially (mainly due to slick marketing) the Eotech's heads up display and circular reticle was the way to go. I bought in to the marketing. Then I got issued the Aimpoint (M68 CCO) and realized my brain could process a single red dot on a target better. I prefer it personally.

How do you like the 1.5x? Does it bother you in CQB?
As to OP if used mainly for home defense i would say EOtech or aimpoint. If you plan to use it for other things acog all the way. I'm thoroughly impressed with my friends acog, we put up a cup of water ranged at 306" yards. Were using a RRA 16" carbine shooting DRS remanufactured 55gr soft points. I guess they're shooting around the same velocity as the M855. Because i swear to you i had the hash mark dead on 3 and compensated about 1/2 an inch for wind and it hit dead center of the cup of water at 300yds. I'm overly impressed with that little optic. Clear as hell, fun to shoot, reliable, and the tritium acts as a red dot in low light situations.

How do you like the 1.5x? Does it bother you in CQB?
As to OP if used mainly for home defense i would say EOtech or aimpoint. If you plan to use it for other things acog all the way. I'm thoroughly impressed with my friends acog, we put up a cup of water ranged at 306" yards. Were using a RRA 16" carbine shooting DRS remanufactured 55gr soft points. I guess they're shooting around the same velocity as the M855. Because i swear to you i had the hash mark dead on 3 and compensated about 1/2 an inch for wind and it hit dead center of the cup of water at 300yds. I'm overly impressed with that little optic. Clear as hell, fun to shoot, reliable, and the tritium acts as a red dot in low light situations.

There are more things I don't like about it than what I do.
I will tell you my biggest turn offs are the ON/OFF, brightness controls, and auto shut off features.
I like the idea of leaving an Aimpoint on for 8 years rather than picking up my gun when I need it most and having to spend 10 seconds or so getting the thing turned on and adjusted for brightness..
After having an EOTech for a few years now I'm having second thoughts of trusting my life to one.
I will sell you my EOTech 557.3XFTS combo.

I like the idea of leaving an Aimpoint on for 8 years rather than picking up my gun when I need it most and having to spend 10 seconds or so getting the thing turned on and adjusted for brightness..

With that being said...I guess I could run just about any eotech like optic and have a set of flip up sights that lined up with the window of my optic and could simply look through it...

That alone tells me you need to get an Aimpoint. The benefit of leaving it on, adjusted for dark in the house brightness, all the time makes the Aimpoint my go to HD optic. No buttons, no knobs, no nada. Put the dot on the bad guy and pull the trigger.
I prefer others for other applications, but there's something about that dot always being there that makes it my choice for that application.

I am so indecisive! I have gone over in my head back and worth between the eotech and aimpoint...I have to say the the idea of just leaving it on and her having the ability to just pick it and shoot...accurately...is very reassuring.

one other thing that I have been curious about that I just cant seem to find...is there a way to run the 3x magnifier on a hinge type mount that i could flip out of the way either to the left or right side of the gun so I could just use it when I wanted and not have to take it off completely?

Again if you did some research on your own all this is so easy to find answeres to. Just look up any eotech/aimpoint magnifier mounts and it will show it has a FTS mount option (FLIP TO SIDE) Like I stated all this is easy as can be to find answeres to if you are willing to find the time to look for yourself.

#1) Excellent response by Henschman.....i use both ACOG and EOTech and they both serve their purpose. I use an EOTech 553 on one of my M4s for close quarter and out to 300 yards. My LMT MRP Defender 2000 is set up with a TA31RCOM4 ACOG for extended range (out to 600 yards or so). The EOTech is perfect for quick target acquisition and response time because of its non-magnified holographic sight......the ACOG, because it is 4x is much better suited for reaching out a little ways. Either one can be very effectively used both eyes open which does not sacrifice your much needed peripheral vision, which is absolutely vital in close quarters. You make the call Tango.....but either one will serve you very well.
#2) its a beautiful world......unfortunately its full of some very ugly people.....and assholes. Pay them no mind.....they arent worth the time or energy. Hope the info helps. BTW.....it was a good question.

Agreed. No offense to ACOG guys though. Just through experiance Ive grown to dislike em. I had an issued ACOG fog on me after a heavy rain storm. Trijicon got a nasty letter about that one haha...had an EOTech 552 go swimming in a river, crushed in a MaxxPro ramp, shut in a door etc, still works great, amazing zero retention. Its been on everyting from my M4 to my MK. 48, I love it, I guess its just my cup o' tea.

both are fine optics. I personally prefer the eotech because the window is larger, and the eye relief is "unlimited" or at least pretty big, where the acog is more restricted. I like that you dont have to get right behind the eotech to be able to use it.
a friend of mine has the model you link'd to. to me it just seems a bit busy and somewhat distracting with all of the dots. i've had no issue going to 200 with the single dot and no magnifier. if your number 1 concern is home defense, i'd pick this one: http://www.botachtactical.com/eoxpho.html
