are er shaw barrels okay because ive always used mcgowen which i have no problems with my 7mm mauser or 260rem, but er shaw has my barrel i want already made for my savage so no wait time or high cost. the barrel is a 30-06 varmint contour 26in. any opinions.

Re: ER shaw barrels

Some have claimed good accuracy with them. Reviews are definitely not consistent! I would consider other options as I would not feel comfortable trusting a shaw barrel in a comp or hunting situation. Jim Briggs stocks many calibers and contours. So does Sin Arms. Both of them can be found over on SavageShooters. Savage-barrels.com also has some in stock. I guess the real questions come down to:

Is a 6-12 week wait worth saving 100 dollars?

Do I really want to take a chance with a new barrel from a company with mixed reviews at best just to save a few bucks?

Is a 100 dollar price difference really that much when you have already mentioned you were satisfied with McGowen?

Why am I in such a hurry to finish my 30-06 and willing to risk the quality and accuracy of the finished product when I already have a 7mm and 260 to play with in the meantime?

My opinion is do it right the first time! Its not like were talking about a difference or $1,000 and a year wait. 3 months max for a Savage drop in and about a hundred more dollars. I would be willing to bet you would be happier in the long haul.

Re: ER shaw barrels

Same here on better than Factory but not bench rest material.

However..............

I have a .243 that has shot <1/2 MOA groups after a good break in. I have a new .308 that on day one of break in with shity plinking reloads was pushing 1 MOA groups without trying.

These barrels have potential after being broken in ( about 200 rounds) but are far from the top of the line custom barrels, but then agan they cost 1/3 of the price too.

Re: ER shaw barrels

Take your stock barrel off, run a strand of barbed wire through it 100 times and really get down deep with it, then take a hand saw, cut it in half, then thread it back on and see what the accuracy is....

To be honest I have no experience with the ER Sahw barrels except the revies all over the web so take this with a grain of salt
