I am a huge NF fan and currently own four of them. The last one i purchased was the 2.5-10x23 for my FNAR. A few weeks ago i noticed that at 300yards i was getting fliers that were beyond "my errors." I would get 3 shots that were sub-moa and two fliers that were 1 to 2" on either direction. It just didnt make sense.

I contacted NF and they asked me to send in the scope. I pretty much thought that i was hallucinating and maybe it was the rifle itself. So i also sent the FNAR to Mark at Short Action Customs to look over since he had done the muzzle brake install on the rifle. As Mark always does, he checked out the rifle and came back with a clean bill of health.

I received my scope back from NF yesterday, a little over 3weeks after i sent it in. There were no notes inside and just an invoice that said repair. I contacted them this morning and they told me that the erector and spring were out of spec and the entire erector and spring setup was replaced with a new one and they checked over everything else and passed a 70 point inspection. The guy i spoke to said that he has been at NF for 3yrs and it is the first time he has seen this and last year they had a 0.9% malfunction which is as good as it gets. I have no doubt that they are honest about that number.

Needless to say, i am very happy and impressed with the service i received and glad that my scope is back in shape. I can also take sigh of relief cause i really thought that it was me causing all the fliers lol. I still support NF 100% and will continue to use their products, but i guess anything can have a flaw. Just wanted to share.

Gotta look at the bright side... Your scope is fixed, the wait wasn't too long, and the best part is your scope was cleaned for free! It sucks when things break, nobody wants to deal with it but as with all thing mechanical there will be failure. Sounds like they treated you well, I have heard the same with other people that have sent scopes in to NF for repair. The 0.9% malfunction rate is darn good considering how many scopes are out there and the places they get sent to. Makes me feel good about owning a NF

That’s for sure; it’s too bad more businesses aren’t like that.

Glad to hear it. This has been my experience with their customer service as well. They communicated well with me and turned it around fairly quickly.

Yeh thats not too bad of a return rate I guess.

Its just good to know that they will take it in and look at it and work on it if needed, unlike other makers who just refuse.

One thing I dont understand is the replacement warranty some scope makers have which states only existing for "US customers" ... its shit to know that a body of water is what makes or breaks the deal in a warranty situation.

But with NF you dont have to deal with bullcrap like that.

I will buy more scopes from NF for that very reason alone.

Re: Erector and spring had to be changed on my NF!

Actually .9% means about 1 in 100 scopes are being returned: that would be a terrible rate of return. I suspect they said something like .09%....just a guess.

Re: Erector and spring had to be changed on my NF!

I would think that a sub 1% failure rate was doing very well!
I hope they really are .09 but I would be pleasantly shocked if that was the case.

I am a recovering Leupold addict but my personal experience with them is more like a 25% failure rate. My Tasco and Bushnell experience is about the same. (Excellent service from Leupold and Tasco but Bushnell's warranty was a bad joke)

I will happily stay with NF and Zeiss.

Re: Erector and spring had to be changed on my NF!

Assuming the return rate = the defect rate, 0.9% = 4.6 sigma level of quality. 0.09% = 5.2 sigma. Both are woefully short of 6 sigma targets. In the quality world, there is nothing impressive with a 99% success rate until it approaches 99.9996%, or true six sigma.
