That was a great vid, state cops in CT are notorious for tailgating in the fast lane, they cruise going like 85 and you better get the hell out of the way. Not bashing Ct cops or nothing just stating an opinion, if I were a cop I would probably drive the same way.

Re: Even Cops Hate People Driving Slow in Fast Lane.

It' s amazing that drivers haven't figured out the "keep to the right except to pass"

- i have never gotten in front of a slow driver in the fast lane and slowed down to 30mph to show them - get out of the way of the motorcycle - dumbas*'s

Re: Even Cops Hate People Driving Slow in Fast Lane.

In Kentucky:

189.300 Vehicles to keep to right.
(1) The operator of any vehicle when upon a highway shall travel upon the right side of
the highway whenever possible, and unless the left side of the highway is clear of
all other traffic or obstructions for a sufficient distance ahead to permit the
overtaking and passing of another vehicle to be completed without interfering with
the operation of any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction or any vehicle
being overtaken. The overtaking vehicle shall return to the proper traffic lane as
soon as practicable and, if the passing vehicle enters the oncoming traffic lane,
before coming within two hundred (200) feet of any approaching vehicle.
(2) The operator of any vehicle moving slowly upon a highway shall keep his vehicle as
closely as practicable to the right-hand boundary of the highway, allowing more
swiftly moving vehicles reasonably free passage to the left.

Of course, most people haven't got a clue where they are or where they're going, much less what lane they're in.

+1, speeding up and slowing down for those who don't properly use the passing lane costs all of us extra fuel, takes more time, is not as safe, and clogs vital transportation arteries.

Yeah Kentucky! Even states that have laws do not enforce well enough. The slow passing lane driver is often a huge safety hazard: old, sleepy, young, inexperienced, foreign, intoxicated, poor equipment, nearly blind in the conditions, ...

It is not legal here for people to text or be on the phone in the car, but see that all the time also. In the fast lane. Maybe us with hands free systems should have a hot line to turn license numbers in and way to upload video of those who don't get right. Or something. Drivers should be able to help enforce laws when as the cops are not there enough when rules are broken. Maybe a funny cable channel or spots on the news. People who drive slow in the fast lane should be exposed, fined, embarrassed, and loose their license if do too often.

Wish the goof ball in the video got a ticket. Still got away with the 'crime'. Just got out of the cops way, others were impeded by having them on the road.

Re: Even Cops Hate People Driving Slow in Fast Lane.

hmm...looks ALOT like I-80 in "Joisey", going eastbound. The entire 68.54 mile long section of that highway is one giant speed trap...

x2
I swear, I see more people doing this than I see excessively speeding.

Or even which turn signal they've left on....

Re: Even Cops Hate People Driving Slow in Fast Lane.

Nice!

The only thing worse than a jerk driving slow in the fast lane is a dickhead on a bicycle riding in the middle of the lane on a two lane road. Bummer for them is, when I finally get around them I am driving a diesel pickup that huffs a lot of black smoke when I stand on it.

Re: Even Cops Hate People Driving Slow in Fast Lane.

I guess I'm the only one that would have liked to see the "slow" driver slam on the brakes.

Back when I took my driving test: 3 or more lanes and they were all passing lanes. Center lanes or lane are tractor trailer passing lane.

Nice to see Kentucky is explicit with their take.

I think the video would have been better if it happened that way. :p

Re: Even Cops Hate People Driving Slow in Fast Lane.

I was trying to imagine what the officer was going to say when he pulled him over BUT he only kept his lights on long enough to put him in the CORRECT lane. Very Nice. I didn't think he needed to be following him so close but still Very Nice.

I remember way back when you were driving and someone was in the fast lane with no one in the other lanes, you'd give a quick flash of your high beams and they'd move over. NOW, they jab their brakes and refuse to move over...WHY? I don't get the mentality.

He probably would have said "Have a nice day and be careful" after he handed him a coupon with one of two things written on it "39:4-97.1 Slow speed so as to impede or block traffic." Its an $81 fine and it holds 2 points being it is a moving violation. Or "39:4-91 Failure to yield right-of-way to emergency vehicles" also an $81 fine and holds 2 points.

Re: Even Cops Hate People Driving Slow in Fast Lane.

There was an editorial in the local progressive rag by a former LEO, or so he claimed. It seems he felt the need to tell everyone that if they are in the hammer lane they are probably speeding and breaking the law so in actuality when he "rides" the hammer lane at speed limit he is protecting most of us from a ticket, and of course he had to mention he is saving the panet. There have been several of these hammer lane editorials in my local papers. Usually it is a hybrid owner touting their genius of singlehandedly saving the planet by being the pace car on I40. I have seen SHP run one down but sadly did not have a cameraman available. This video is poetic justice.

Re: Even Cops Hate People Driving Slow in Fast Lane.

The next time you get behind a slow driver in the fast lane, try to get a good look at the driver. You'll see why they do it. One minority thinks the left lane is just for them

Re: Even Cops Hate People Driving Slow in Fast Lane.

The idiot hybrid people are allowed to use the carpool lane here, it is rediculous. What pisses me off the most though, are two lanes, and a semi going 55.000001 mph has to pass a semi doing 55mph, and NOT speed up to do it, all the while stopping traffic from Sacramento all the way to Mexico for the 25 minutes it will take him to pass...UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!

Re: Even Cops Hate People Driving Slow in Fast Lane.

A lot of states allow bikers to use the carpool lanes, but it's a good way to pick up foreign debris in a tire. You can tell that those lanes aren't as clean as the other lanes.

+1, totally with you.

Electric / hybrid car owners too often drive like their time is more valuable than others combined with they own the road. Makes others want to get in front at any cost.

Every container train takes 100s of trucks off the long-haul road and is 5+ times more fuel efficient. Trains are a solution to trucks clogging open highways.

While trucks still do in-city short hauls on both ends and that 55.000001 mph situation where nether wants to break the speed limit due to the letter of the law sucks to be behind in the traffic jam when can see other drivers taking risks being impatient doing anything they can to pass.

+1 to this also.

Have seen areas where people take any risk to get in front of slow left hand drivers in the right lanes also and they all become passing lanes. Seattle I5 is an example where right lanes are usually faster going. Makes more difficult for slower to get right. Kinda like NASCAR. Not so safe to be behind all the dangerous movement in a traffic jam. Surprised not more huge wrecks.

You didn't hear this from me, but this is usually done in split speed limit states to make a point. It sucks to be limited to 55 when cars can go faster.

Re: Even Cops Hate People Driving Slow in Fast Lane.

that reminds me of about every other driver in washington. this state is clogged with idiot drivers. it is a daily occurance to see 3 cars blocking 3 lanes of traffic, as they drive the same speed, and not a damn one of them will speed up and get over. i wouldn't be suprised if that video is from this state.

It gives me great satisfaction to finally pass the offending douchebag and slow both of them down to 35 and then be on my way....especially on a grade. I figure if they don't mind wasting my time I won't mind wasting theirs.
