Went to go shoot the first time in like 4 months (been in Afghan the last few months) this morning and gotta say what a cluster-F. I have some good humor about it but it wasn't pretty.

Problem #1. I picked up a Springfield Scout in an McM stock off here. Put a Leup VX3 on it to just See what she would do. First round out of the box some little black things flew up and hit the concrete. Was the heads of the screws off one side of the rear ring. Not sure the maker of the rings since they came with a gun I picked up a while back and had them laying in the drawer figured they would work for this. So I have 1 round on that gun at this point.

Problem #2. Picked up a GA Precision 300WM off the PX here. Got it at a great price also and is a nice rifle. Boresighted the scope and let her ring out. hit 1' high so went to turn it down and I'll be damned if it wouldn't go down anymore. Guess the 40MOA base is a bit much for 200 yards. After that problem was discovered I discovered the damn bolt would not extract the round. I could get the bolt fully open just could not pull it back to extract. Got it out and looked a bit closer at the box and I'll be damned if I didnt grab the reloads for my Kimber 300WM. Will be sure to fix that label. Purchased a box of Cor-Bon 190's from the store and continued mission with this rifle. Took it out to 1k and after I fix the elevation issue will be a great long range stick.

280 Ackley, Some of you have seen the pics of this rifle. I loaded up some 140's just to fireform brass for this rifle. (turns out what I thought was a box of 308 nosler brass was 280AI brass so this was a waste anyway.). I shot it 50 times, 10 5 shot groups and all were 1/2" or under so was pleased with this rifle.

308 Rem XCR LR Tactical, I have had this rifle a while and it has not let me down yet. It always shoots under an inch with most being in the 1/2-3/4" range. Always hits the spot and even though I get some much nicer rifles in the safe stays my favorite.

Problem #3 308 Norma Mag, I helped my FIL with this rifle. Its a Win 70 with custom barrel and now a boyds lam stock. The old stock split down the middle after a couple hundred rounds. We bedded this one with Devcon and set it up real nice. His first group was ok but asked me to shoot it. My group was all over the dang place. Started lookin it over real well and the front screw backed off and when re-torquing it for some reason now its too long.

Kimber Super America 308. Beautiful rifle but this thing hates anything that I know works great in the 308 caliber. I have found it does love Varget though. Need to work up and down with it over a 165SGK.

Forgot my rear bag so had to make due with a pullover that was in the back seat of the truck. Forgot my Ipod Touch so had to pull my come ups for 1k out of my ass. Been there a bunch with the rifles I was shooting at that distance so I had a good idea but didnt get a first round hit due to it. Seems a good reason to print something up and tape it to the stock since I guess I rely on my IPOD too much. I went weekly to bi weekly out there to shoot the first 6 months of this year while I was off and knew the come ups at 300, 400, 500, 1000 by heart and didnt rely on the Ipod much.

Any day shooting is better than a day working that is for sure. Even with all the problems I had a bit of fun putting some rounds through my new sticks, At first it was turning out to be a real turd though.

Like the man said...a bad day at the range is better than a good day at work!

All in all, it could have been worse (at least nobody was injured or killed)...but I have been there/done that and I feel your pain! Seems like when one thing goes wrong that there are just a series of unfortunate events that follow.

What program do you use on your ipod. And those days just wreck your shooting experience and leave you down. Normally going out shooting is what makes your week. Sorry to hear that.

This is very true. My worst days teach me stuff to avoid in the future. I have had days that I forgot to put the right atmospherics in my PDA. Now I know, won't happen again. I have had days where my scope mount has come loose. Now I know, won't happen again. I have had days where I couldn't be consistent. I had to take it one step at a time with the basics until I was shooting consistently. Now I know. Take these days as learning experiences, learn from them, and you will be a better shooter.

Sorry to hi-jack but I use Bullet Flight. It's the one that makes the most sense to my limited intellect. There are a bunch out there though...

Yeah I'm with you Poke - every once in a while "one of those days" rolls around.

Like when your out confirming a new load's trajectory before a big hunt, and your friend is shooting half your group size with your own rifle...

having had not practice at all...

Yeah its bullet flight, doesnt do any good when you rely on it to much then leave it at home.
