After much searching, I finally found a tri-pod that is perfect IMO. I contacted Dave at www.sniperscopestand.com several weeks ago and he informed me that the new Gen 4 Ewing was about to become available and that he'd let me know when. Sure enough, just as he said he would, he called and sent one of the new tri-pod's my way. I love everything about this unit and wanted to let you guys know. This thing is solid, compact, and light weight. My Nikon worked great on it as well as the Leupold in which it was designed for.

Nice......but slap the word "sniper" onto a product & watch the price skyrocket to ridiculous heights.....$375 to hold my spotting scope.....no thanks....

I have Manfrotto carbon camera tripod that is less. Just saying that is "nice", just a bit steep.

Re: Ewing Gen 4 Tri-pod

Looked at the picture on the website of the tripod with "more rods added" in the fully extended position. Wondered how stable it would be when when raised up to use in the higher settings. Looks like it'd have the same stability issues as a standard hi-power type tripod.

Definitely an interesting, well built unit but would like to see a thorough field review before deciding if it's worth the price.

Thanks for posting the info, link and pics.

Re: Ewing Gen 4 Tri-pod

I have one of the previous units.
I really like it but it has it's limits.
With 1 rod and a medium scope it's ok, but a larger scope will overpower the friction adjustments on the head unless you carry a seperate hex key to really tighten things.
With 4 rod extensions you'll ned to have something solid to brace it against, it will fall.
Mine has the "socom" leg extension for un even ground. Not real usful in practice. The ground spike could be used to kill buffalo however..............

These new ones are not this expensive. Get ahold of Dave for a price quote.

Mine was $264.00 shipped --- Just FYI

Re: Ewing Gen 4 Tri-pod

I've been using mine a lot w/ my Nikon mounted on it and have had no problems whatsoever. It holds it tight & stable. I've had it on somewhat uneven ground and was able to set it up balanced without any thought of it falling or tipping over. I have not been in the rocks with it yet, but if I do, I'll get a picture of it.

Re: Ewing Gen 4 Tri-pod

Lowlight posted on one in a thread a couple of weeks ago
and didn't seem to impressed. I wouldn't mind trying one at some
point but not over a Manfrotto.
