Exacto...I see they are getting close to perfecting...

Hi,

Except the little issue of them closing that project down several years ago and "reading" everyone out of it.

Conclusion: It provided no measurable benefits over traditional ammunition when utilized by trained Sniper Teams. It was actually a hinderance once distance got beyond 1600m as it doesn't function properly unless supersonic speeds.

GEEZUS...that video is hideous and hilarious at the same time...from the very first rifle shown when mentioning "snipers and distance" being a damn 22LR to what looks like a bolt action pistol in hard case.

Sincerely,
Theis

Before Exacto, I was at (a large defense contractor) that sold LOTS of ammo, we looked at miniaturizing the electronics in a fuze to guide a bullet, and the actuators needed to guide the bullet.
Needed to be a .50 cal or bigger to get it all in the package.

They got disinterested when they realized that if they produced a 1-shot-1-kill bullet, their ammo sales would drop dramatically, and ceased the effort.

A reading about EXACTO, I toyed with a different approach for each a smooth bore and rifled barrel. There is a simple way to get there without having to have the larger fins EXACTO had.

Would love to see someone develop the product, I'm too old to get back into product development.

Proof the industrial military complex relationship with the government is pure fucking corruption “when they realized they were too close to being efficient and saving taxpayer money”

i fucking hate all of you.

well it makes sense since the military will be dressed in drag in the future they are going to need something to make up what will be lacking besides just diversity training and sensitivity training but the second the military gets it to work you know they Chinese will just take back ( steal) the technology so it's sort of waist full for the Russians to spend a dime on any of it when they will get it from china all at the us tax payers expense yea and the world keeps turning but those in the USA that own .50 cals will not be allowed to own such ammo . I just wanna see it for the 22lr :giggle:

Revisiting this thread as it seems to get periodic buzz on DARPA's EXACTO bullets purported to be anywhere from $100-$1000/shot for gyrojet technology that started back in the 1950s....

Maybe cheaper options like the Kestrel bullet will hit stores sometime soon for the new future sport of waterfall trophy fish shooting and "around and through the tree line" big game hunting.

The 25mm programmable shells/grenades from the OCSW were pretty good in 2003… but program dropped over cost. Or maybe not dropped… maybe just bubbling away. Lots of real-estate in those shells and the air burst made them very lethal… cover became concealment real fast.

There was a under-barrel version of this, too.

Wtf... 2:08 the video zooms in on my old office, pretty close to, or maybe even the, floor I was on. Pretty sure whoever made this video was trying to tell me something.
