Extended Mag Catch for AI?

Re: Extended Mag Catch for AI?

No there is no problem with the catch as it is.

But I had the chance to use the KRG version on a TRG and it is fantastic. The RAD bottom metal has the same idea. Its just really slick and wouldn't mind trying one on my AICS if such a product existed.

Re: Extended Mag Catch for AI?

Well fellas we have considered doing one. One thing I like about the setup is that the mag catch on there is a good design in that it allows for a torsion spring which is more appropriate for the movement of the catch. There would be slight more machining involved in an AI catch extender but it's doable for sure.

I do think, as was pointed out, that maybe AI didn't want the catch to be too easy to get to. On the other hand, as was also pointed out, the guys with the TRG catches from us say they really like them. Bottom line is we'll make them if there's enough demand and someone else doesn't fill it first.

Re: Extended Mag Catch for AI?

I ended up making one, took a few hours on the manual mill (I'm not exactly a wiz) but wasn't too bad.

I had to make mine because I am using a surgeon action that's been milled to accept AIAW mags and the factory catch allowed just a little too much slop for reliable feeding. By making mine a bit long and then tuning it with the hand file I got pretty close to a perfect fit and all my problems with feeding went away.

So, if you guys decide to start producing them then consider offering a "fitting required" version which is just a little long for guys who might be looking to use one of the new actions that are AW compatible.

Well Justin, count me in for a couple, if they come to fruition. SFTexan's TRG with your mag catch is slick. I just really liked how easy it was to the index finger to drop the mag.

My M2008 would have to be fitted as well, I'm sure. But I can run a file. I think something like 40 thou had to come off the factory catch to run the AW mags.
