Gunsmithing Extraction problem

Got a friends Howa 1500 .223. It will extract a live round and a new unfired case but not a fired case. Polished chamber, replaced extractor and spring. Any other suggestions.

factory loads or handloads? Any Pressure signs??

Factory ammo. No pressure signs. No visable marks on cases either.

have you checked the headspace by any chance? i had one that had excessive headspace and the case rims were getting flattened out a bit. It might be causing the extractor to get stuck...I'm no smith just going from experience...not even sure if that makes sense or not...maybe pete lincoln or some of the other howa guys might chime in..

does the cartridge get stuck in the chamber as the bolt comes back or is the bolt stuck after firing.

head space is good. bolt don't stick just the case.

Check the extractor isnt slightly bent in the wrong direction, this can happen with tight shells exerting more work on the extractor.

Turnsout it was the shells, some third world shit, works fine with my lake city reloads, wcc and commerical factory.

I don't know only markings is a diamond with a slash through it.

Try some different ammo. Somtimes it makes all the difference.
