Hi ya'll... I'm trying to setup my Diamondback 3-9x40 with Burris XTR low rings and an EGW HD base on my Remmy 700 30-06 (long action). My eye relief is pretty limited because the bottom of the scope bell hits the EGW base. If i cheek weld in just the right spot and pull the bolt back it touches my cheek. Its not really uncomfortable or anything... but it seems weird. I was reading that some guys train to have the bolt touch their cheek in order to help with consistent cheek weld. It actually feels pretty good when i think about it like that. I'd worry about the freezing cold, but I do live in california. I could trade in for higher rings, but that sacrifices the low height. I could trade in for another mount, but I rather like this one.

What should I do?

Do you have some room to allow you to shave the base a bit with a Dremel? I don't recommend the bolt actually making contact with your cheek. Get yourself into a rapid bolt situation and you could really regret it, especially in a competition. If you can pull off at least 1/8" of room you should be good.

Good idear, Red. My scope did have some extended rail in the front which i sliced off with my dremel. Polished it off real nice and flat, added a very light new coat of flat green camo rustoleum. Good as new! Fits like a champ now. Lets hope she holds her zero!
