There has been a gun show for the last three weekends straight in OKC and there is one next weekend. They have all sucked balls (few vendors and lots of "scentsy" candles, $12 admission). I know good deals are non existent at gun shows but they use to be a good way to kill a Saturday afternoon.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

Nothing new to me. The shows in Nashville have gone down hill- and continue to spiral into the abyss. Used to be, we had 3 a year. Now, it seems like there is one every other month. We have 2 major promoters in my area- Bob Pope and Bill Goodman. I believe it is the Goodman show that is held at the Nashville Fairgrounds. It is the worst of the two.

Bob Pope, though, is generally a bit better. Still, like you, the dream catchers, beef jerky, candles("try this, smells just like buck pee"), survivalists, etc., are getting out of hand.

I go to MAYBE one a year. Best deals are to be found in the hands of those walking around as guests. I have bought several nice guns from private individuals.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

Gun Shows just ain't what they used to be back in the 80's and 90's. Best I ever went to was in the Blaisedel Arena in Honolulu. That was my intro to some seriously set up 'long range presision' rifles, and a metric ton of Galil ARM 308's, AR's, all kinds of cool stuff.
I'm almost scared to go to one now just because I KNOW I'll be severely disappointed

+1

Every so often you do find something worthwhile.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

I know one guy who vends at local shows. He's a serious guy with good stuff and good prices. He posts on this forum. You'll probably not see me on the vendor forums here, but that's because I buy eye-to-eye. But if I didn't, I'd be doing all my Internet trading here at 'The 'Hide.

+1M!! I have seen an influx in the "gangbanger types" floating around WV gunshows in the last few years. I have been told by some close friends who are in state and fed law enforcement that they are aware of this as these "gentlemen" are coming from Detroit and other areas buying stuff cheap here and turning a sizeable profit back home selling the stuff they buy illegally on the street. Couple of them were busted a while back trying to engage in straw-party purchases!

Our "local" gunshows (meaning any of the 3-4 within an hour or so drive) are all the same. There are usually one or two guys there that have some very nice items (high-end rifles, pistols, some ammo, etc.) but their prices are so outrageous that when you call them on it or try to deal, you get the same crappy response that you "don't know what the hell you are talking about." (They are in denial that the Internet has changed the way they need to price and conduct business!)

The other vendors have a mix of rusting shotguns, beat to death "huntin'" rifles, cheap, Chinese pot-metal knives/swords, etc. Hell...half the time, the best items and best deals are from folks just walking around with something they want to sell or trade for something "new."

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

Some of the small town gun shows aren't so bad. Kind of like election time at the polls, you get to see people you havent seen since last year.

Also I like the powder lady. There isnt much for reloading components in this neck of the wooks, the powder lady always shows up (except for yesterday, when I needed a supply of Trail Boss and Unique).

But you're right, unless you want a good buy on a gal of Honey, there isnt much new anymore.

But Hey, yesterday I did get a deal on a real nice bamboo fly rod.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

i like beef jerky. shows here at the expo in topeka are all by the same promoter now. there used to be two, i think one bought out the other. decent. hit the crowd for deals. or the private tables. one guy was just there to clear out several reloading setups for an estate. thats where i got my goldmine of an RCBS setup. but there are knife sharpeners, alarm hawkers, saw blade sellers, soldering rod sellers, jewelry for the ladies, border patrol recruiters, minutemen booths...i really loved going. i went with a buddy who had a table, got in free. he started sharing space with another guy, lost my pass. so far i havent seen the need to spend $7 to get in for the last three shows. they just lost the interesting stuff that used to thrill me. there is one guy that has any type of quality scopes, MK4s. ive never seen a NF, USO or S&B even on a rifle at this show. all the ar stuff is still high like the dealers that think they can actually make more buy selling the occasional inflated item to a sucker with no internet, then by having decent realistic prices now that stuff isnt scarce like it was. one guy wont even take ARs to the show cause finally people are selling them at low prices and he cant get even $1k or $900 anymore, let alone the $1k and up he was raping in during the election wave.

i also thought it was funny how much the dealers were fanning the flames of fear over a ban with one hand and raking in the cash selling ARs with the other that they built in their garage and lined their shelves with and are now unable to move at the profit the once enjoyed. thats just funny. guys stuck with lowers they gotta have 2x as much as you can get them for today. still sitting after a year now. i just cant make myself go anymore

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

I agree. They suck here in St. Louis. If you go to one you have been to them all. Same crap every time. I have stopped going to them. There is rarely ever anything new or decent to look at anymore. Plus guns two years ago were decent priced. Now like everything else there overinflated. Was going to buy an AR for around $650 then now there asking around a $1000.00 . But I guess I am complaining for no reason. Everybody has felt the crazy price increases.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

Solution is very easy. Just leave stuff on their shelves, and shop around.
You can get a pretty nice DelTon AR15 for $660, today. Thing that was like $1100+ a year ago.
Dealers have to pay their bills, so even if they try to hold on SCAM prices, they have to come down to free the shelves and cash in.
Today prices are A WHOLE LOT better than they use to be a year ago.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

I'm the guy who looks actively for the diamonds in the rough. I know that most of the stuff is junk sold at prices that are way too high, but there is always something worth looking at. Forget about finding optics worth anything (unless you fall for the "line" that NCStar and Osprey International are top of the line optics), most of the accessories are junk brands, and there are far too many raci, er "WWII Memorabilia" guys (I.e., Nazi relics). Ammo is so highly priced that it isn't even funny (I can get ammo for 30-50% cheaper at any local gun shop), ditto for reloading components (except one time I saw a guy selling Wolf LR Primers for $3 per 100 and $27 per 1000 which is a pretty good deal). But here is always that cool "your favorite gun here" for a decent price amongst the rows and rows of scrap metal they call guns.

Plus, Bud's Gun Shop is local for me and they're always at the show, oftentimes selling for prices even lower than what they sell for on the internet (cha ching!), and they always have one heck of a selection, bringing out guns from their warehouse that they don't have on store shelves.

Double Star is local too, and they show up often with some great deals on uppers/parts/etc.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

Don't even waste your time in the gun shows around Denver. They haven't been any good for well over a decade. Even the beef jerky was terrible, and the giant turkey legs were all dried up and tasteless.

No reason to go anymore...

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

This just in....

Some idiot at the Tanner Gun Show here in Denver accidentally shot himself and is still in the hospital. He was handling/examining an "unloaded" handgun.

More proof that these shows are sucking worse and worse...

And don't get me started on the types of people showing up at these events.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

they have sherrifs check your weapons at the door here. they drop the mag, check the action, open the cylinder, whatever and ziptie the thing before you go in. heard there was a trashcan for ammo since someone always forgets. but nothing gets in loaded. in theory

Same here. I've never seen so many gangbangers and mojados at a Crossroads of the West gun show as this last one. Skreet thugs with their pregnant baby's mommas with 3 to 4 mijos in tow roaming the aisles like they could actually legally own anything. These 4th Waiver turds had the cajones to show up with their tatted up "MS-13" and "LA" inked on their shaved heads & faces. It was all I could do to keep my instincts in check. I don't think I've ever been as disgusted and disappointed during a gun show as this last one. At least I saw a majority of vendors & attendees watch them like a hawk.

I'm thinking all the Kali 2-strikers moved here to escape the mandatory 25 years added to their sentence when they get popped for their 3rd strike. They practically get a fresh start in a new state coming here. The shows are a joke now.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

Damn that's gotta suck for you guys down there. Up here we have 3-4 shows a year and one is always put on where I went to school/played varsity hockey. The hockey team always put it on and yes there the occasional junk dealer but some local smiths always brought their benchrest guns in and reloading compenants were always cheaper than I could find anywhere else. The ARs are usually priced evenly with what are dealers have up here (cheapest is right around $950) but then again i'm used to inflated pricing up here for just about everything. Usually have about 50% new guys each year so the show stays 'fresh'.

Oh no! We might have to be with people who are different! God forbid we actually have to share space with . . . with . . . Mexicans.

There was no "assuming". I have been professionally trained to identify gang related tattoos. This includes origins, rank, and status within a gang, etc. So you are the internet fairy godmother out there "assuming" his heart out, that I am a racist and don't like tattoos. I also have tattoos, just not known gang tats about my face, neck and head.

If there is anything I am prejuced about, it is people with "pointy heads". The errudite and over-educated beyond their own capabilities crowd who "assume". They are the self-appointed servants of political correctness. They are the great unappreciated martyrs who point their boney fingers to all, to defend those who "might" or "may" be offended by things of which they do not understand. You know, the "I'm the smartest one in the room" and "my opinion matters more than yours" crowd.

Obviously, you know nothing about gangs or criminals in general. Let alone, any inkling of law enforcement procedure. Do you even own a precision rifle or do you just come in here to stir the pot and pontificate your group-think ideas?

Apparently, I am wasting my time on the ignorant and I shouldn't waste another key stroke. The fact that I need to clarify or defend my previous statements to YOU, or otherwise have my words twisted beyond their original intent is rather galling. The thought police have arrived.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

Three douchebags, with 3/4 length pants draped below the curvature of their buttocks, were shuffling down the street across from my non communist home, while I was driving golf balls into my net Saturday night. My new Dobie and my salty Shepherd alerted me to them with loud throaty barks and attentive postures.

Are they racist dogs?

And to be unequivocally unambiguous, if you wear pants so low you have to hold them with one hand to keep them from falling the rest of the way down, you are a douchebag.

Haha

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

we have to pay 6.00 per person for admission here, the whole purpose of the gunshow was to see what you can get super cheap that you cant get anywhere else. i used to see guns sell and people would actually deal and wheel with customers and now they think your gonna pay my price or tuff shit, well im not paying there price and im going everywhere else to shop and actually getting great deals and the guys at the gun shows arent selling shit but junk and there wanting more than top dollar for that shit as well.

Where had you mentioned, amongst just about every cultural stereotype about Mexicans, that you are trained in identifying gang related tats?

Oh, yeah, that would be nowhere. So you saw it fit to throw out the gamut of racist comments, yet failed to mention the single qualification you have to identify one as a gang member and you wonder why someone has the gall to call you a racist?

Perhaps had you stuck with the material evidence, rather than the anecdotal bullshit, people wouldn't be making any assumptions. Even then, considering you have the training necessary to identify gang members by their tats, yet willfully chose to omit it in favor of the stereotypes, things seem pretty clear.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

Eleaf- for those of us that know what gang tattoos look like (albeit I don't know them to the level of an LEO or Gang Task Force guy), it's not hard to spot the trash of any race or ethnic background. That being said I have a lot of ink and probably get mistaken for a neo-nazi sometimes due to the intermittently shaved head (nature was cruel). When one has MS-13 tattooed on them, or various obvious cholo artwork on their body- it's not hard to ID them as hispanic gang bangers as they are generally some of those most flamboyant of that population segment. Nor is it hard to fathom their spread north and east from California to escape the 3 strike rule. Not everything is a white conspiracy.

No one is suggesting that it is. I don't have a hard time imagining that undesirables of all kinds exist everywhere. They do.

What is being suggested is don't get mad when called out after using various racial stereotypes to talk about a particular people, especially if you have the expertise and training necessary to identify them as the criminals you're implicating them as. Why resort to overt racist language when you have the tools to legitimately call them what what you're calling them?

This math is not hard.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

Did you hear about the guy who got shot at a show in Denver this weekend?

http://www.thedenverdailynews.com/article.php?aID=7740

Dumbass "dealer" had a loaded piece on the table.

MAN SHOT AT GUN SHOW: A man was shot, reportedly in the chest, at the Tanner Gun Show Saturday. Around 2 p.m., a gunshot was heard at the 700-table gun show located at the Denver Merchandise Mart. The man, whose condition was unknown as of yesterday afternoon, was taken to Denver Health Medical Center. How the man was shot is still under investigation. There are reports that a dealer was showing a customer the gun and it accidentally went off when the gun was picked up. That the gun was loaded is another mystery, since all guns at the show are supposed to be unloaded and checked by the show’s security, according to the Tanner Gun Show Web site.

Re: F-ing sick of gun shows

Shows piss me off more and more. Too much junk (non gun/accessories). I get tired of the many tables of junk knives/swords that only emo's and 40-year old basement dwellers give a damn about. I'll keep my money and sit at home, drink beer and watch baseball.
