Any particular reason over the Krieger? It seems like they are all pretty high quality and a drop in barrel like this would likely a lot of time and gunsmithing fees over starting from a blank rock or bartlein.

My question is if this is a scratch build why not just go JP if you are already spending that much.

As an FYI, with Krieger, if there has been a modification like a muzzle brake installed, they might give you a discount, but will still have to pay for it. I emailed asking about there process and was informed my bolt headspaced short so it will be a few weeks as they are going to rechamber it specific to my bolt at no extra cost (oh darn :) ). The other thing to note is timeline. JP will likely be quick, in stock barrels that need to be checked slower and customs slower still. PS zero are you building a 6.5 or a 308 ? You sound more indecisive than me!

ya it looks like the krieger is an extra 125.00 for threaded end. so It appears the krieger through FA is cheaper then... are you buying your barrel through Krieger direct? I imagine FA would rechamber the barrel to match my bolt specs too right?

I am building both 6.5/260 and another 308...

I had my criterion barrels headspaced to my bolt so i'm sure they will do it for the krieger. They are friendly and helpful so you could always give them a call.

Yeah I'm buying it through them directly. As a point of clarification, it was already chambered, if it would have fit within their specs it would have been within sent out. Full customs have an 8-9 month wait. The more and more I read and talk with people the more I am glad that I didn't go drop in.

I don't know specifically about their chambering services but the limited experience with FA has not been awesome. I imagine they would be plenty accurate, I just won't be returning with my business any time soon with such stellar competitor.

I have a 6.5 Creedmoor barrel from them. I asked having one made from a blank at a smith will cost you the same and even direct from Krieger its a comparable price as they charge for muzzle threading as well.

Krieger is cut rifled, JP is button rifled. I'd go with the Krieger over the JP in a heartbeat for a precision build and after seeing how this one shoots I'll gladly buy another friend from them when it's shot out.

Why because a custom made barrel will have better bore concentricity , the barrel will be indexed and timed for run out. You also have your choice of chamber that you can match to your custom load or a factory loading and rifling type. Also depending on what conditions you shoot in you can choose a steel barrel vs a stainless material. Also different barrel makers use different types of steel for their blanks. You also get to pick your barrel profile , journal diameters , muzzle threading and type of crown on the barrel. The way I look at it is , if I am going to spend 600-800 on good drop in , why not spend 900 on custom that gives me more control. I won't get in the the button vs cut rifled debate , because both types of rifling yield good results.

Let's use GAP as an example, one of the reasons they guns are so good is that they make each barrel with the best blanks and go through each step with precision in mind vs just making a run of parts and selling them.

I think the implications more that the JP is preset at 20ish pounds in a heavy barrel and a lilja could be tapered in such a way to cut weight, thing is with the JP you get a 250 high pressure bolt and with lilja you you have to provide your own. So I believe the that lilja would be more accurate, and a longer wait and more expensive. JP barrels are likely awesome but they don't have the pedigree and track record of kreiger, lilja. Bartlein.... Seems like a compromise between cost and availability vs ultimate accuracy.

For a 308 build recently, i went with rainier ultramatch and they would test it against multiple barrels and find the best fit. For 400 combined with a 200ish bcg, it fit the build. For the 6.5 build that ended up for me, I went kreiger because I could wait for the work and budget to finish it later, so I went big. And I'll finish in time
