Okay so I stopped by a local gun shop and decided to take a look for a new scope for the 77/22. After looking through the inventory I noticed several Nikons and to my surprise some Vortexes as well. Now here is where the story takes a strange turn.

After looking at 2 Nikon scopes and 1 Vortex I started talking to the local guy about scopes. I asked for his personal opinion for what he likes to mount on .22s and he said this, "I only mount rimfire scopes to rimfire rifles because rimfire rifles recoil differently and can knock the reticle out of place if they aren't etched into the glass."

To me this sounds fishy to me and I honestly don't believe this guy. Please set me straight here.

Re: Fact of Myth

I think I jostle a scoped rifle more in my truck than the recoil of a .22. But then, I believe in spending the extra $50 to get decent glass

+1. But, when mounting a scope on a rimfire, you'll need a scope with adjustable parallax, or set up for rimfire. I set mine for parallax free at 75 yards. Leupold will perform the service for a nominal fee.
