I was helping a non-reloader at work with the selection of his first precision rifle. Unfortunately, match-grade, high B.C. ammo seems to only come factory-loaded in 223, 308, and now 6.5 Creedmoor. Let me know if I'm missing any others.

As for target-grade rifles, I was surprised to find out that Ruger chambers for the 6.5 Creedmoor. Unfortunately only Ruger does this.

Anyone think Savage or Remington might follow?

Hornady and Black hills chamber for the 6.5-.284 that Savage makes their F class rifle in.

I believe there are some varmint target grades of .260 in Remington 700 (SPS?) I know they make a 7mm-08 in SPS varmint but only corbon(?) makes match ammo for it. The 7mm-08 does have a good selection of premium and varmint ammo though.

But, to answer your question, yes for the most part match is going to mean .223 or .308

Find a used 700P or 700VS and throw on a custom barrel. Might cost a couple hundred more than a new 700P but it will shoot better than a factory rifle so it will be worth it.

I've been avoiding that conversation at all costs! I'll mention the option of professional reloading to him. Thanks!

He is considering trying to find a used Savage and having me install a new barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor. His budget won't allow re-barreling a Remmy. Too much in gunsmithing costs.

I forgot to mention that he also needs a left-handed action. That sure makes for a short list!

I agree savage is prbably the easier way to go. YOu know you can find the less expensive Stevens 200's and do the same thing. Stock is junk and bottom metal isn't usually any better, but the action itself isn't bad. You can find a bunch of them over on GB or AA..or GA, but I'm not a member of that one.
