factory stock, barrel moves?

i was doing some dry firing today after work, i don't have my bipod or scope yet, so i was mostly practicing cheek weld and and reload ( cocking the gun with the bolt)

and when i got finish i looked over my stock and noticed my barrel at the end of the stock isn't touching and if i apply downward pressure the barrel will sink down into the stock a good half a tenth of a inch.

is this normal? loose screw/bolt? could it affect my shooting? I have yet to fire the gun, just curious is all, my rem 30-06 has a wood stock finish and doesn't move at all.

I think those come w/ a HS P stock. If that's the case, they are ridged. It wouldn't hurt to check the front action bolt to make sure it's not loose. Don't tighten down on it, just make sure it's not loose.

Is the stock wide through the forearm? Does it have palm swells on each side of the grip?

yes, the stock does swell up towards the front

if this photos help any, i'm not freaking out about it or anything, i just thought it was odd.

"and when i got finish i looked over my stock and noticed my barrel at the end of the stock isn't touching and if i apply downward pressure the barrel will sink down into the stock a good half a tenth of a inch."

1/2 of a 1/10 = 1/20" or
1/2 of a 10th = 5/10 = 1/2 inch?

That stock should not flex much, however, it all depends on how much pressure you are applying.

So long the stock does not touch the barrel while you are applying pressure you should be ok. Try putting it on your bipod and lay prone to see how much it flexes.

1/20", i'm not sure if it is the stock flexing, or the barrel to be quite honest with you, and when i apply pressure the barrel will run the stocks in the front.

Re: factory stock, barrel moves?

Barrels should not be touching the forearm when just setting there. This is called a "free floating" barrel and is normal and usually preferred for accuracy.
All forearms will flex under pressure. Plastic, fiberglass, wood or metal, they will all flex with various amounts of pressure. With a freefloated barrel the forearm is an unsupported cantilevered beam from the recoil lug out. It should be stiff enough that the weight of the barrel hanging out over it will not flex it when it is just setting there on a bipod.
When the rifle is fired both the backward and downward recoil impulse can and will cause some forearm flexing, and the barrel may even touch the forearm. But none of this movement takes place until the bullet has already exited the barrel and is way down range so it has no effect on accuracy or shot placement.
A half of a tenth of an inch is .050" and sounds like about the normal amount of barrel float. Just go shoot the rifle and enjoy it, everything is probably the way it should be.
