Its a specialist FT scope. Not a shooting discipline Americans participate in but is big in the UK. In FT a sidewheel is used to estimate distance via a combination of short depth of field and parallax design. Reading off the wheel gives resonably close distance estimation. FT is shot over short range out to 55yards.
