I recently purchased a New M77 Hawkeye Tactical in .243 Win(1-9 twist)and am working through the projectiles. I started with the 90gr Nosler BT, and will try the 85Gr Sierra Gameking Next.

Any other suggestions?

Re: Favorite .243 Bullet

I really like the Hornady 87 Vmax and the 105 Amax. They are accurate and attractively priced. The Amax shoots great in most 1-8 barrels. It is hit or miss in a 1-9. You should try both.

Whitetail will be the largest target. Most of my shots will be through paper into a berm. Making small holes through a target is a wonderful thing. The 85 gr range would be a happy medium.

Re: Favorite .243 Bullet

I've had good success with Hornady's 87gr Vmax and BTHP, however the 90gr Lapua Scenar is absolutely fantastic and that's what I'm sticking to at the moment.

Re: Favorite .243 Bullet

Anything in particular that you want to try. I have a few Berger 88 low drag bullets and 105 hunting VLDs on the shelf that I don't plan to use. I now have a load for the 105 amaxs and enough to burn out my barrel.

If your interested, pm me and I'm sure we could work something out on the bergers

85 gr TSX's at 3000 fps or faster is all you'll ever need for Deer, Coyote, and Hog.

87 gr Vmax's for everything else.

I could hang pics if you need proof.........

+1... Try RE-17 with the 105 gr Amax. My 9.25 twist works fine running them at 3100 fps. Instant death of mule deer and antelope.

87 gr Vmax are nice too.

maybe so but if you are just shooting paper there are cheaper alternatives.

Re: Favorite .243 Bullet

I have had outstanding results from 62 gr Barnes Varmit Grenades for coyotes out of my Winchester 70 Featherweight. I was suprised they shot as well as they did - I spent years trying to get that gun sub-MOA with heavier bullets and could never do it. These shoot 0.5-0.6 MOA over 40.5 gr. Varget.

Maybe so, but by the same token, who the fuck just shoots paper?

That'd be a damn boring life.

Just sayin'......

Re: Favorite .243 Bullet

Coyote Buster and accuracy, 87 Gr VMax & IMR 4064 like around 35-37 grs Winchester brass and primers shoots well out of my Varmint Remington 700 and my buddies varmint Savage... Ladder test to come up with your best results.
