Hunting & Fishing Favorite caliber bullet combo for hunting

I've had a lot of recent luck with a plain 'ol .308 shooting 165gr Nosler BT at around 2650 FPS.

There are many 'better' combos, but this one works amazingly well on deer-sized game.

300 wm

Flat enough
powerful enough
Anywhere that sells Ammo sells 300wm

And any 300wm factory Ammo will put down any game in the lower 48

I forgot my Ammo one hunt that i traveled by air. Yes I was flipping out on myself.

Stopped at a store bought 2 boxes.

Sighted in, and I was fine

Either 120gr TTSX in a 7x57 or 150gr TTSX in a .308, both within 350yds, for anything that will overload a commercial freezer.
Both the above loads within 200-250yds for anything in North America that can eat me.

120gr Ballistic Tips from the 7x57 & 150/155 HPBT in the .308 for yappers & howlers.

How far is the longest shot

You could definitely take Elk or smaller with 156 gr Berger EOL's in 6.5 PRC. I love mine. Fraction of the recoil of my .300 WBY Mag which I've used for elk previously. Ballistics are almost identical at 550 yds and even better favoring the 6.5 PRC at 800 yds compared to a Nosler 165gr AB in the WBY.

Not many long shots or large animals here in TX where I am hunting.

My go to has been a .260 Rem with a mild load pushing the 140gr Sierra game king for deer and hogs. More than enough for these animals.

I have shot those up and will be developing a load for the 130gr TGK now. No real need to change it up, but I enjoy the process of testing.

Nothing is walking away from it...and tracking is minimal.

I don’t recommend it on Texas whitetail if you are big into harvesting meat...I suppose you could rock a high neck shot

I hunt elk mule deer and antelope was gonna try that bullet this year

I'd pick a 6.5, probably the PRC, if it was just deer and antelope but I'd go with a 300 Win Mag or 300 PRC if Elk are on the table. My Win Mag load is a Berger 215 at around 2950 fps.
