My favorites would have to be The Thin Red Line(which made me buy my Mosin Nagant and shooter which is the movie that made me want to do some long distance shooting, that and me shooting a turkey in the neck at 256 yards(I would like to repeat that)

What he said but:

1)EATG
2)Shooter
3)Sniper

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

I liked Enemy at the Gates best. I thought Shooter was good. Sniper was just dumb in one too many places.

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

i watched the special features of my shooter dvd yesterday and found a nice lil 20 minute on the carlos hathcock that was the best part of the movie:)theres also a lil vid from chey tac on there as well

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

Enemy at the Gates number one and second would be Saving Private Ryan. I didn't care for either Shooter or Sniper (I'm getting ready for the incoming flak

).

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

Enemy at the gates I would have to agree. I had not watched the movie until one of my shooting buddies about a year ago introduced me to it. Even to be produced years ago it was a hit for me.

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

Sniper 1,2 & 3
Enemy at the Gates
Shooter

Best assault movie???

Heat

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

Enemy at the Gates.

Shooter is pretty good but Hollywood has a way of going over the top with their stuff. That opening scene was pretty bad ass though.

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

Shooter was probably a better "sniper" movie, but the pseudo-history in Enemy at the Gates was entertaining.

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

Loved Enemy At The Gates and shooter was solid for all the gun porn, but my favorite is JARHEAD...yeah, not tons of sniping, but just about everything else!

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

Dirty Harry. Got admire a man that would use a .458 Win Mag. for a sniper rifle. Too bad Clint could not hit s.. with it.

Shooter would have Ok if only BLS wasn't racking the bolt on the Barrett.

So that makes the winner - Enemy at the Gates.

How could you even mention that trash in here? He shits on the Marine Corps and you call it a good movie?

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

I'm still trying to find a scope with the reticle that Tom Berenger had in Sniper. I'm not sure what the "beat box" looking digital stuff at the bottom is, but if it's good enough for Tom Berenger, it's good enough for me.

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

I like the part in "Wanted" with the long range shot ( from what looks like a smooth bore muzzleloader ? ) bullet flight going backwards i thought was cool. The rest of the movie was dumb.

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

The last sniper shot in "Wanted" made the barrel look like it was almost curving down from the weight. Never got that.

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

Best sniper scene in a movie... the one in "The Hurt Locker". Now, I know how great the sniper scene was in Saving Private Ryan (the one in the rain - bullet throught the scope), but the scene in "The Hurt Locker" when the British SAS guy gets killed and the black EOD guy grabs the 50 BMG is pretty epic. Seemed decently realistic as far as the ballistics/impacts and all that stuff too. Very well done.

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

sniper 1
sniper 2
sniper 3
there are no other really good sniper movies!

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

"Nobody mentioned Quigley Down Under........greatness"

Yeah, Quigley is pretty bad ass. One of the best Western/Sniper/Action/Adventure scenes ever... when he's just been left for dead with the girl and the bad guy is racing off in the buggy, and Quigley crawls to his gun and thows down a 600 yard plus shot on him. Music was great... action was great... whole scene was awesome.

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

"Enemy at the Gates"

A couple of little know but good ones are:

"Shot through the Heart" Vlado Selimovic (Linus Roache) and Slavko Stanic (Vincent Perez), who end up on opposing sides of the Bosnian War in Sarajevo....is pretty good.

"Savior" with Dennis Quaid

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

the "shot through the heart" was a great movie " enemy at the gates" one of the best.I would like to see a true to life movie of Carlos Hathcock, although their have been movies that used his feats of marksmanship, they owe it to him to make a movie of him.(IMHO) The best sniper clip is from a series called Generation Kill. just go to utube and search generation kill sniper shot and woe man it is the shit for sure. You couldnt have filmed a real headshot and looked any more realistic!

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

Enemy at the Gates is classic. Quigley has its moments also. Someone wrote about the fight scene in Heat...has anyone seen the new movie The Town. It has some pretty good scenes in it.

My favorite also followed by Shooter and Enemy at the Gates.

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

Enemy at the Gates.
Though the P/U MN is a hunk of junk, it was adequate for the ranges they used it for there, and I doubt the Russians expected the rifle (or the sniper) to last long enough to spend a lot of money and effort on a quality rifle and scope.
the activities and cammo, as well as the equipment and tactics in the movie are pretty good, except where the plot gets kinda stupid. The story of the duel between Koniev and Zytzev is actually true. The German was shot in the face, not through the scope. As far as i know, only Hathcock ever actually pulled that off.
Saving Private Ryan pisses me off. The guy is Left handed, which no real sniper should ever be with a bolt gun (we sorted them out in selection for candidates.) Too much unnecessary movement to work a bolt on the "wrong" side.
Somehow he goes back and forth between a Army 03A4 with a late model Lyman scope on a Remington 03A4 to a Unertl on a Marine 03A1 (M1941) with a C stock, and i think a magically appearing and disappearing front sight!
He seems to remove and swap his scopeall the time. WTF? There goes his zero.
And as for being stupid enough to get in a tower with a sniper rifle at all, let alone stay there, he deserves to get blown to hell.
There is so much wrong with the SPR sniper that i actually am gettigng heart palpitations from all the screw ups. Dale Dye should have hired a real sniper to handle that guy for the movie, and ut Dale Dye was a asshole as a captain, and still thinks he knows it all. He may be able to impress and fool Hollywood actors with his bullshit, but the details aren't always there the way that he promises, and claims.

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

hurt locker huh, not to bad shooting for a EOD guy with no spotter shooting a 3 moa weapon.

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

Hokey movie, but I liked the ("God..., God...?") .50 cal sniper scenes, Navy SEALS.

Shot through the heart

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

+1 Shot through the Heart

I also liked the sniping scenes in "Tears of the Sun"

Re: Favorite Sniping Movie

Lonesome Dove
Best long range shot.
Robert Duvall, pinned down in a low depression, killed his horse for cover. Finally got mad.
"By God, thats enough"
Ran the site on his Sharps all the way up and drilled em.
