Hi guys I am a California resident and I am interested in getting a Remington 308. I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether the two Federal ammo types are legal to shoot at ranges, i.e. do not stick to a magnet.

Federal GMM 168gr SMK
Federal GMM 175gr SMK

Im sorry as I was not sure where to place this thread, but the reload section seemed a good place to start.

And yes, I did both a SH search and google search with no luck.

Thank you

Re: Federal 308 ammo magnet test

You had better write Nancy and get a GTG from her, before you go and do something stupid, C.

There is Lead and copper. That's about it. The lead I hear, if ingested by a condor, may cause cancer. I was under the impression you guys had to use lead free bullets. In this case you're limited to Barnes and the like.

And for god's sake C, don't go a shootin them there condors while they are brunching on the mound at the range.

Hey thanks a lot guys. I've been looking at the Rem 700 sps tactical (because I want a short and stout barrel) and from what I've been skowering up and researching around SH is that both these bullets are primo for this rifle.

As for the condors, I'll make sure to call a "cease fire" while I'm on the range so that I can line up my shot and get first dibbs on it

Re: Federal 308 ammo magnet test

Make sure you are not passing any current through your cartridges when testing them, I've gotten them to stick to a magnet when doing so. Make sure you ground each round just before the test to release any static charge, otherwise the commies will be after your electron charged ass, and take away all your fun pills, and leave you with a handsome fine. I even fashioned a tiny ground cable with a little bitty clamp I work with a set of tweezers to use while testing my ammo at the range, I simply connect it to a long copper shaft that I drive into the ground using a wooden croquet mallet (to keep down on the sparks) It draws alot of attention from people who aren't as clever as me, but I've never gotten in trouble for having bullets of the wrong political persuasion.

As far as the Condors are concerned, I believe passing current through one of them will get you into a heap of trouble, I wouldn't suggest it as everyone knows they are full of fossil fuel and you could be burned seriously.
