I bought some .308 PMAGs and the Federal Gold Match SMK 175 grain bullets don't seem to fit in the magazines. The 168 gr bullets work good but with the 175s I can only get about 5 in the 20 rd magazine. They are difficult to get in but function fine. The Magpul website lists the military 7.62 LR round as a round that will work with the mags. With the 1/10 barrel I was looking to use the 175s

Has anyone else ran into this problem?
Are the Federal rds longer than the LR military rds? I was looking to buy some of the GPS defense 175 gr bullets, but there is no use if they are the same size as the Federal GM.

175 and 168 should be the same length

Re: Federal Gold Match SMK 175 grain .308 PMAG

Did you buy the ones labeled .308 Winchester or 7.62x51?
They will have different headstamps. The 7.62 is loaded slightly longer. 2.812 vs 2.800 according to my measurements.

Mine work fine with PMags.
I have shot several different 175's and have actually loaded them longer than spec and they still fit.
I typically run M118LR out of my gassers, but I started out with FGM 175's and they worked fine.

Re: Federal Gold Match SMK 175 grain .308 PMAG

Ran a case of the 7.62 175 fgmm through nothing, but magpul mags with no issues. Do you have more then 1 mag?

Re: Federal Gold Match SMK 175 grain .308 PMAG

If you have a friend who handloads 308 you could seat them a couple thou deeper.

Re: Federal Gold Match SMK 175 grain .308 PMAG

the tips of the bullets (FGMM 175's) drag on the inside of my p-mags

Federal Markets type different gold medal match 175 grains:

The ones in the .308 Winchester box have federal commercial brass marked FC 308.

The ones in the 7.62X51 box have annealed brass marked FC and the year of manufacture.

I have boxes of both and have measured them. The ones from the 7.62X51 box is slightly longer.

Re: Federal Gold Match SMK 175 grain .308 PMAG

I can get them in but they drag and I can only get about 5 in a 20 rd mag before it gets too tight to continue. I have 4 different PMAGs and the same problem with all of them. Just went to the range today and no problems with the 168s. I will have to look at the box to see if they are 7.62 or .308.

Thanks for the help.

Do you have a set of calipers? Maybe the box of ammo you have is loaded a little long.
