I just bought some .308 ammo from the CMP. They told me over the phone that it was 180 grain FGMM. I really pushed them on the fact that such an animal does not exist, though I have read that an early incarnation of the FGMM came with a 180 grain projectile. The rep repeated that it was FGMM.

I ordered a bunch of it and just got it yesterday. It turns out that it is under the Federal Hi-Power line. The bullet is a 180 grain Sierra HPBT. It is labeled 308 WIN Match. I don't know the history on this. Is this a precursor to FGMM? The latest date I found on the box was a 1991 copyright, so this was marketed sooner than 10 years ago. I was hoping someone would remember it.

Thanks!

Thanks. I was aware of the 180 gr FGMM. I have seen it on gunbroker. I was thinking that maybe Hi-Power was just a precursor to FGMM. I can't think of much that would be different if the projectile is that same except maybe non-match primers or perhaps a different powder.

The first 20 I have looked at seem to have more runout than the 175 gr FGMM, but I need to look at 100 or so before I can be sure.

Sierra never wanted to acknowledge that there was a long boattail 180 Matchking, it was similar to 190 Matchking but it weighed 180 grains. The 180 MK that they marketed was similar to the 168 MK.
The long boattail 180 was an excellent competition long range bullet in M-14's
