I ended up tapping the tripod threads and installed some bushings. I believe --- not 100% certain I tapped for 5/8" x ??? threads and the bushings are 5/8" x ??? OD with 3/8" x 16 ID. Easy fix and for the cost of the tripod, I'm not going to bash it
