What are my options for a front focal plane 1x-4x optic? I'm not finding much.

I'm planning on using this for a 3-gun rifle. Gonna throw it on a Larue OBR 5.56 that i'm about to pull the trigger on.

Re: FFP 1x-4x Optics?

USO has a dual focal plane scope thats a 1-8x ? If Im not mistaking.

I'll admit I have no time behind a SWFA optic so I'm a little leery of dropping $800 on a brand I've never seen in "real life".

What is the warranty on SWFA optics? Do you guys have any experience with this or any SWFA optics? Will it hold up to being thrown around in matches and long road trips in the bed of my truck?

I'm sure it's a great product just wanna make sure I'm not dropping $800 on the wrong optic for the job at hand.

</div></div> Do some reading around here about the SWFA SS line. You'll find that they are highly recommended. I own two of them, use them at work too, and they plain work and work well in all conditions. As for SWFA, they stand behind their products to the end.

As for your optic choice, I don't think you will find a better option than the SWFA SS for under $1k.

Re: FFP 1x-4x Optics?

US Optics 1-4 is a great optic my preference on my 3 gun rifle is the SN4 1.5-6 with the C2 reticle that is until the 1-8 comes out.

I could be wrong, but I believe those are SFP. OP asked for FFP.

Personally I don't think FFP is all that important in a 1-4x though! Are you really going to be ranging below 4x in a 1-4x?

Re: FFP 1x-4x Optics?

The Vortex PST 1-4x is FFP and ranging is probably the thing that FFP is used for the least.

Isn't S&B supposed to be releasing a true 1-4x along with the 1-8x Short Dot? It would be DFP though. The 1.1-4x Short Dots are FFP.

Re: FFP 1x-4x Optics?

I'm not a big fan of FFP 1-4x scope mainly do to the RET gets to small at 1x. There are some RETs that are not some bad such as the Vortex RET and some of USO RETs. I really like the ELCAN Specter DR. And for the price the MeOpta ZD.

Ah, right.

I think that's a major strength... provided you can still use the short range illumination feature. The S&B Short Dot is a great example of a good implementation of that. On low magnification, the crosshairs almost disappear and all that you see is the dot in the center, much like an Aimpoint. When I want the dot for close range, I prefer just having the dot (losing the crosshairs is a good thing).

I really like the way Premier implemented it in their 1.1-8x, where the illumination switches to the dot automatically when you dial down below 3x.

All of my scopes are FFP. I use the mil marks extensively for hold-overs, wind hold-off, corrections, leads on moving targets (lead in mils is constant over a wide distance for a target of a given speed), etc... If I can see the mil marks, I'm going to end up using them for that stuff (it becomes second nature), and I'm going to get burned sooner or later with not having the magnification set at the right value in an SPF scope.

Re: FFP 1x-4x Optics?

I have to say that the SWFA 1-4x is one real nice scope for the money! I have one and love it. I even dropped it like 3-4 feet off the ground and it held zero and still tracks with no issues

Re: FFP 1x-4x Optics?

to be honest, you could do just as well if not better with a scope in 2fp with a ballistic reticle. look at the people winning the big 3 gun matches, all are running capped turret swarovski 1-6 brt-i scopes 2fp

Here is pretty good review on our SS over on AR15.com.

Here are some reticle compairisons so you can see how effective our design is compaired to others. The design of our FFP reticle makes it like having two scopes in one.

You can also holler at Chris Cerino and ask him how well it does in Three Gun.

I use one. A lot of guys just keep it at 6x. They will then use something like the Leupold Deltapoint in the 1 o'clock position for close targets.

I also have a couple of SWFA 1-4x scopes. They are rugged and also work well.
