Hi
I am wanting to get a new scope for my AR. I think I want the USO SN-4 1.5-6X. I have never looked through one, and FFP scopes are few an far between where I live. I am a little worried that the reticle will be too small at 1.5X Am I just being paranoid, or should i consider the NF 2.5 to 10X SPF. I am also thinking about the IOR 2-12X

I have an amipoint right now, but I want some magnification for mid range shooting but dont want to lose too much bottom end.

These scopes are at the absolute top of my budget, but Im sick of crappy optics.

Re: ffp on low powers

At the lower powers the reticle just stats to appear as more of a plane cross hair. Not really a concern because if your using the reticle for hold over or ranging your going to be at a distance where your going to dial it up at least a bit.

Re: ffp on low powers

i completely agree with mute, i think the illuminated reticles are the way to go with ffp scopes. with that said, why dont you try to look through a ffp scope yourself before you drop big money on a USO? i think you'll find that they are great scopes, but at least you will have peace of mind. and if you find that you like SFP scopes better than you saved yourself some hassle.

Re: ffp on low powers

Just a little input on the 1.5-6x: Here is a link to some data Doc put together on the C2 reticle in our 1.5-6x. He took some pictures of the reticle at different magnification powers and at various distances. The C2 reticle is a Mil reticle. We also have the JNG Mil and JNG MOA reticles available, which have a similar design.

Re: ffp on low powers

I guess another side input, we've developed a SFP 1-4x recently. We currently have only one reticle available for this scope and it is a BDC reticle calibrated for a 69gr bullet traveling at 2850fps.

Re: ffp on low powers

Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it. I wont have the money saved until Oct most likely, so between now and then I will track down a ffp scope.

The pictures looked good, thanks for the link.

Re: ffp on low powers

The scope in question is designed to work with their JNG reticle. On 1.5 the "crosshair" disappears and you aim using the circle with the reticle lit, day or night. Run it up to 6X and magically a mil or MOA scale reticle appears that is usable for hold offs and hold ups.

I am trying to consolidate my SPR Type I/II/III optics into one with this scope. It should be here some time in the next 2-3 months.

Gonna have to look that new C2 reticle over as well...

I've run my 3.2-17 FFP USO down to 6x to locate targets then forgot to turn it back up to take the shot, holding for wind - that tells you how usable the reticles can be at relatively low power once you get accustomed to using them.

Re: ffp on low powers

I'm with _9H, I think those that say FFP isn;t for lower powers hasn't utilized one properly. I loved the SN4 I had with the old circle chevron, and i think the 1.5-6X would be great with the JNG reticle.

But then again, I'm a huge believer in FFP or Fixed......
