bought it here few years ago it has road rash story has it some one drove off with it on car......

i'm finally getting around to do some work on it and want smooth out the rash, give her a coat of paint. Rash is to deep for sand paper. What grade file should i look for? What shape? (preferably harbor freight)?

Anything else on her need upgrading?

If you are going to paint it, then just clean the rash, fill it in and smooth then coat it.

The receiver is alloy.

Re: filing metal on mossy 500

Just something to think about. My wife's younger brother bought an old Springfield pump action 12 guage that had a really rough place on the barrel & fore stock. He went to Lowe's and bought several rolls of MONKEY or "Friction tape", and wrapped the whole thing forward of the buttstock. It looks cheap and cheesy. But it looks better to him than the gravel marks did. He didn't remove any metal. Only washed it in lighter fluid then started with the tape.

He said that would work until he figured out what he was going to do with it. It's a very extreme looking piece. But he hasn't done anything he can't undo.
