Rifle Scopes Final ring question

I was all set to order a set of medium Badger rings to go on a Badger 20moa base. It will mount a VXIII LR 4.5-14X50 scope. The medium rings are .885 high wich is what I was recommended to get. I just read a post that a fellow mounted a Vortex 4-14x50 on a 20moa base using the standard or .823 high Badger rings. What size should I order ?

OK , guess I'll play it safe and go with the mediums.

If you have the scope and the base is on the rifle, you can shim the scope in place (clay works pretty well) to get the barrel and bolt clearance you want, measure the height of the shims (make sure they are both the same) and order the appropriate rings. I've tried other methods and ended up with scope heights I didn't care for or insufficient clearance, or had to return rings.
