Sako bipod
AAC Cyclone

I will probably grab a TAB suppressor cover sometime soon but this rifle is basically done now. Time to start playing with subsonic loads.

These are the first 10 rounds through the gun. A quick 5-round string after boresighting, then scope adjustment, then 5 rounds through one hole. I think that'll do!

I love the TRG/Cyclone look. Have you experienced any zero shift out of your cyclone? I'm currently waiting for my paperwork to come back on my cyclone and I will be running it on a TRG-22 as well. Also, just out of curiousity, did you have to order your cyclone from AAC? (Due to the 1/18th metric thread on the Sako)I ran into this issue so I was just wondering. Thank you

Oh ok.... Do Suppressor companies usually produce thread on suppressors with the M18x1 pitch or does that usually need to be custom ordered. I tried to order an AAC cyclone in M18x1 from my local suppressor dealer and he said that they would have to special order it. I was just wondering if this was just AAC or if this is a common thing.

Re: Finally finished my TRG...

AAC does offer that thread in their lineup for the Cyclones. The trick is finding a dealer that has one or if AAC has one in that pattern at the time you order. I believe they usually do keep it in stock.

On my TRG, I am chopping it down to 18.5" and threading it to the more common 5/8x24.

Re: Finally finished my TRG...

Ok thanks Bacarrat, I actually am planning on doing the same thing. My TRG is a 26" so I just went ahead and ordered a cyclone in 5/8x24 with the thought of cutting my barrel down to 20. Originally I was wanting to cut the barrel and keep the same thread pitch so I could swap back and forth between my cyclone and my Sako muzzle brake, but after having the difficulty in finding a cyclone in m18x1 I went the other route.

Also Bacarrat, if you don't mind me asking, who are you going to have cut your TRG barrel? A couple of local gunsmiths have been hesitant to cut my barrel because they heard that removing the barrel from the TRG action is slightly difficult and they don't want to mess anything up.

thanks for the help!

Re: Finally finished my TRG...

I have a query in with a local smith that I use. Me might be too busy to take in any new work. If he is, I am thinking about using a smith on the hide to cut it down, plus there is one other thing I want custom made since I have a folder.

Mark Gordon at short action customs can cut your barrel down.

Hey Palmik,
Thanks for the recommendation! Have you seen alot of Marks work? From looking at his website, it looks like I may have just found someone to do my barrel work. Thanks again!

Re: Finally finished my TRG...

Thanks guys.

The Cyclone is true M18x1. Maybe some day I will cut the barrel down, but it shoots so good right now that I just don't want to mess with it. When I shoot out this barrel I will probably go with something in the 18-20" range.

I ordered the Cyclone from Major Malfunction, but he did have to special-order it from AAC. Even though AAC had it in stock, this process still took close to a year. I paid for the can in late June 2010 and brought it home on Saturday (Form 3 from AAC to MM, Form 3 from MM to my dealer, Form 4 from my dealer to me).

I have not yet tested the POI shift. Have not had a chance to shoot the can yet. Will hopefully be making it the range in the next week or two though (my work hours are ludicrous and I don't have as much time to shoot as I'd like).

I shoot primarily at DPRC in Mebane, for whoever was asking.

Re: Finally finished my TRG...

If you can't find a smith here that can do in your time frame you may want to consider GemTech. They WANT you to send in the complete action. I just had them thread a Noveske AR10 barrel 18x1 for my Cyclone. Great job and 4 week turn. You can find under 'services' on their web site.

Mark is a good friend of mine, has done work for me, and yes, I have seen dozens of rifles he has done. He is one of the few guys out there that doesn't cut any corners, no exceptions. He will take care of you.

Re: Finally finished my TRG...

POI shift will be noted but not extreme has more to do with freebore boost or even the exit of the twist in rifling corresponding with the baffle degree and angle and the gases / air...
