I took my wife shooting a few weeks back and let her shoot the .17hmr for a while and talked her into trying the .308 at 300 yards. She hit the target both times she shot at it and decided to call it quits for the day. This morning she asked me if we could go shooting and take the big guns, I think she's done with the 17. I loaded up an ar15 for her to try out, we got set up, I sighted it in and showed her the basics before I let her shoot. She went 8 out of 9 at 300 yards with a 10" steel plate I set up for her. I was pretty happy for her since it's just cheap ammo and the wind was blowing today. She shot about forty rounds before her shoulder got sore and started to flinch. I'm going to have the barrel threaded and muzzle brake installed before I let her shoot it anymore so she doesn't develop any bad habits. I couldn't be happier seeing her start to enjoy my hobby!

She is gonna shoot all yer ammo up. You need to teach her how to reload now.

I already tried talking her into it and she isn't too crazy about that idea yet lol

Yep! Sounds like he's creating a monster. A good one though!!!

Definitely a good thing, I been trying to talk her into a nice .223 bolt gun for her ;-)

The best thing about teaching my wife to shoot is she listens very well to everything I say and applies it. I been teaching my brother how to shoot on the weekends for the last few months and he has to be told 3-4 times before he listens. My next outing is to teach her how to use the reticle and turrets, then it's time to take her one day when my brothers shooting and watch her kick his ass lol

Be happy, it took me almost 2 years to get my wife to agree to shoot. She loves shooting the little PK380 I have and has pretty much claimed that as hers now. It took me another 6 months before she would shoot my 308, but is still scared of my AR. Yeah no one can figure that one out yet...

That's awesome! Glad she was open minded and had a great day! All that positive reinforcement of hitting all those targets must've gotten her pumped up and ready to shoot more! Good deal!

That's a rare quality in a woman.

Maybe generally, but most NRA firearms instructors will tell you woman are far easier to teach then men because there is no "I'm a guy so I should know how to do this instinctively" BS going on. They listen and take it seriously.

I've offered to take mine shooting but she has no interest. On the other hand she has no problem with my buying whatever I want as long as the money is there for our regular bills.

My wife has been great about me buying guns and reloading equipment, she helped talk me into a Dillon 650 for my handgun loads. She figured the less time I spent reloading meant more time for us to hang out.

My wife didn't want to go shooting with me until after our divorce (go figure). After the split I helped her buy her first sidearm an XDM 9m. I had my reservations as you can imagine but thought that it is better for her to be able to protect herself if she had to. Now she bugs me all the time to take her out to the property to shoot my 308s and ARs. Strange bird that one.

Went out today again and she is doing great. I was teaching her how to adjust turrets, I was telling her what to dial to and just getting her used to that. Next time I will try to take her out when it's windy and get her used to compensating for that, that will be tricky! For some reason she has always been backwards on that, I can tell her to turn left in the car and she goes right lol. She's hitting 5 for 5 on 10" steel at 300 yards pretty regular now, not bad considering it's cheap ammo. I want to get her some good ammo and have her shoot at the 4x6" target to see how she does.
