Between work & family, finding trigger time seems to be more difficult than it was even 6 months ago. Well, I had an appointment cancel on me late yesterday morning and a 2 hour window opened up. I could have done any number of things but the weather was right and all I wanted to do was send some rounds downrange. So I grabbed my gear, my .260 Remington, and headed to the range. Time didn't allow me to run past 100yds and I only cracked off 10 rounds total. I put together two 5-shot groups. This is the first time I've shot at paper since November so I'm always rusty and didn't expect much as far as tight groups are concerned.
I was pretty pleased with the second group (pictured below) as, for me, that is a solid group even though the rifle is capable of much better. I shoot off my Eberlestock Gunslinger II and just use the Eberlestock Lightweight Rain Cover carrying bag as a rear rest. The load is:
--3x fired Remington .260 brass;
--139gr. Lapua Scenar;
--43.0gr. H4350 (I worked up to this load, recommend you do so before loading);
--Federal 210M primer;
The rifle, built by Chris Mathews of Long Shot Rifles (he is formerly of GA Precision):
--Remington 700 action;
--Broughton barrel;
--McMillan stock;
--custom trigger, don't remember model;
The scope is a Hawke Sidewinder 30 Tactical Fixed 10x with their 1/2 mil dot reticle. Rings are Burris Xtreme Tacticals. The optical quality is very good at this price point & I liken it to better than that used in the Nikon Monarch line (better resolution & field of view) but not quite as bright as that used in the Bushnell Elite Tactical line. The tracking has been very accurate as well & one who likes to dial his dope would like the feel of these turrets.
Anyhow, I only got about 90 minutes at the range but I really enjoyed every moment. I can't wait to get back out there & see what I can do at 200 & 300 yards.
Here are some pics of my rifle & the 2nd 5-shot group:
