Fine tuning my AR

I have a Daniel Defense V4. It's a great shooting rifle that's sub MOA. I'm wanting to swap out the red dot on it and push out beyond 500-600 yards with it. I'm looking at a MagPul PRS stock and a Vortex PST 4-16x50. But what what are some of the little things I can do to improve the performance and accuracy of the rifle?

I'm looking for BCG, trigger, break/comp's, or grip recommendations and so on. There isn't any wiggle between the upper and lower. I've thought about swapping out my 16" stock barrel for a 18" noveske but it's shooting great as is.

I'm looking for use as long range target shooting for tactical matches, for fun, and maybe hunting.

Thanks

Geissele SSA-E triggers are great for precision work. Other than that, I'd see what kind of groups you get out of it since you have a red dot scope on it now. Scope it and run it out to 500 and see what your groups are like. Practice a lot and good ammo is what you'll need for longer range. I like 77 grain SMK with Varget.

I think a lot of the time that the fine tuning needed is the shooter behind the rifle. That said, I do have all Stainless match barrels on mine. Kriegers and WOA's.

Good Luck

I wouldn't mess around with the PRS stock, I'd go with something lighter like the Magpul STR, ACS-L, etc...it gives you a good cheek weld for use with optics and storage space for tools and what not. I've used magnified optics on AR's with just standard carbine stocks and stocks like the SOPMOD and Vltor E-MOD so I personally don't see the need for an adjustable cheek piece and all that the PRS brings. Next I'd replace the trigger, I use Geissele and it's hard to go wrong there, they have a 2 stage trigger out now that's really affordable but the SSA-E is likewise an excellent choice. For optics that's a personal decision as to what magnification will work for you but on an AR I prefer to keep things at 10X or under for times when I have to transition from target to target under time. 4-16 sounds really good for shooting groups but take a look at the Vortex 2.5-10X32 also. The 10X magnification is still plenty for long range shooting and shooting groups while it's matched reticle and adjustments in addition to parallax compensation make it really good choice for use on an AR that will be used out to 600 yards or so. After that I'd get a bunch of match ammo and learn its trajectory inside and out when both dialing and holding over using the reticle.

I have a WOA varmint 18" full upper on order to replace the stock upper on my Colt LE 6920 M4. I installed a Geissele SSA-E trigger which reduced my groups about half the size with the stock one. I also have a Vortex 6-24x50mm PST FFP MOA scope with a custom turret, but it is to heavy for what I want on the AR. I did get a Bushnell AR/223 scope which has a 4.5-18x40mm zoom. I really like it especially for long range shooting. After I get a drop chart shot at distances I will have stick on labels to put on the vertical turret so I can range the targets then turn the turret to the distance, hold for wind and shoot. Only $24.99.

Don't waste your money on the noveske. They are incredibly overpriced for the performance, and based on Noveske's track record since John died, I would not buy a thing from them.

You can get a MUCH better tube for half the price if you want. Think WOA.

The Geissele SSA-E is a no-brainer, IMO.

Make certain your scope mount provides a forward offset for sufficient eye relief and the proper height (1.4" to 1.5" above the flat top) for a proper cheek weld. Ensure your scope is 100% level in its mount.

You can't shoot better than your ammo will, but that should not be a problem for you. If you're capable of shooting sub-MOA with a red dot, you must be shooting all match grade ammo, anyway, plus be a truly gifted shooter.

If you are shooting sub-MOA with a DDV4 and a Red dot, don't change a thing as you are as close to perfection as you can get.

While the OP is shooting sub moa I doubt that with the red dot he will be able to maintain that out at longer ranges. The NF NXS 2.5-10X32/42 would be a good optic choice as would the SSA-E trigger. I would not change the barrel as it has proven itself to be a sub moa shooter. The PRS stock on a 556 is over kill. The Magpul ACS or STR would be my choice.

Right? I would just get a good scope and geissele trigger and be done if I could get sub-moa with a dot sight and factory "mil spec" trigger. I'd better practice more dammit.

I'm going to go against grain here. I prefer the PRS stock! Even though it adds some extra weight the fully adjust on the fly cheek height and LOP enable you to fit your AR to your body. My number one criteria is having a rifle that fits correctly and the better a rifle fits you the better you'll shoot it.

Those G triggers are excellent BTW.
