Fireing pin damage from CCI #34 possible?

So I picked up a brick of #34 and am just wondering of the possibility of damage from the heavier wall. These would be 100% for use in a Remington 700 PSS (.308)

How much extra charge (in terms of percentage do these primer have over a traditional Fed. or CCI primer?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Fireing pin damage from CCI #34 possible?

The only real risk from a primer damaging a firing pin that I'm aware of is when the primer is pierced. this can burn the end of the firing pin. It is MUCH more likely in THIN walled primers than in thick walled ones. The only primers I've had trouble with piercing is Winchester small rifle primers. I've never (yet) pierced any other primer especially the CCI #41 or #34 military primers. I have had a problem igniting CCI primers before due to a light firing pin strike from thickened lube in below freezing temperatures. Federal primers in the same rifle that day went BANG without fail.

I'm thinking with a harder case that it might flatten of chip the tip of the firing pin...

Re: Fireing pin damage from CCI #34 possible?

Have no worries with firing pin damage from the CCI #34s. Black Hills uses them in their 300 gr SMK 338 ammo and I have been using them in my 338 loads for the last 300 or so rounds and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. I have gotten lower spreads and better velocity with the #34s over both the 215s and WLRM primers.

Not saying one is better than the other, just my personal experience.

Re: Fireing pin damage from CCI #34 possible?

Reason I asked what damage was expected is that I had a friend who had a rifle with a bent striker. He called the manufacturer and some BS artist asked him if he was using milsurp ammo and he said yes and this jerk told him military primers are harder and bends strikers which is pure BS.
Just wanted to see if he had been talking to same jerk. Military primers do require higher energy to ignite them but not anywhere close to the level to warp strikers.
